Just a thought. I wonder how much Ashworth enjoyed working with/for Paul Barber and if this was a factor

He'll have loved working at Brighton. But he can now try to restructure the entire football operation of the richest club in the world. Difficult to turn down, especially if you're single (narrow?) minded enough to focus purely on the football opportunity. The Albion move on. Bloom clearly pissed off. Ashworth will know Bloom's pissed off.

I suspect that for the forseeable future, the club is going to have a fight on its hands to protect its most valuable assets. Dan Ashworth is a blow, and we'll also be disappointed if we lose Biss, Lamptey or Webster in the summer. Possibly even Graham Potter.

We just need to hope we hang on to the right personnel to keep the conveyor belt of new talent moving. That in itself will depend on us retaining the services of key people in our coaching and recruitment teams, as well as other tiers of the business.

Luckily for us we have a number of "constants" that should insulate us a little bit. The ownership structure, the training facility, the stadium are things that no one can steal from us.

Biss on a lower contract with 1 year left, seems almost inevitable he will be sold.

But Webster has just signed an extension, Lamptey and Potter have years left so it matters not what Newcastle or others may try. They are under contract and will not leave unless Bloom sanctions it. See Dale Stephens part 1 and Ben White to Leeds.

Interesting that you've essentially 'cut and paste' your comment from the Ashworth thread onto here, a 'good news' thread. I wonder why you're so keen to promote this?

I think Trossard's stock has risen considerably this season, l am starting to think we ought to start planning for a future without him.

Bigger fish than us will undoubtably be in for him come the summer window.

He’s good, but I don’t think good enough for a top six club.

I really rate Tross and Maupay and want to see them both extend, but I'm not sure either of them would play for a top six side as regularly as they currently play for a top ten side. Not something I would say about White or Biss currently (or I suspect, Lamptey and Sanchez in a year or two) ???

No one has mentioned Cucurella yet but he is is turning in some excellent performances - yes signed recently but that contract might matter for nothing if we were offered £40m for him....

Ahhh yes, the mowers, bring on the Spring and giving the lawns their first haircut of the year.

Good news indeed.

I mowed the lawn on Saturday afternoon - have I peaked early?!

But back to the good news...

We have 5 fixtures coming up which are all winnable:

Watford, Man U, Burnley, Villa, Newcastle.

Man U the toughest, but they're hardly in great form and the football gods still owe us something against them

That’s the ticket :)

Agreed with above that I have completely accepted Biss is off in the summer.

New contract for Welbeck is the one I’m most fussed about.

I wouldn't worry about Welbeck - he's turned out to be a good signing but the fact he is often injured means a) I'm not sure many noticeably bigger clubs are going to be in for him and b) similar sized clubs are not going to offer him a significant wage increase such that it's worth his while moving.

And in the meantime I've got high hopes for Denis Undav - looks a player.

Yeah I get those. I just really like him and want to know he’s staying.

Also even if Undav is quality we still need Welbeck imo, provides something different. Also 2.5 strikers still isn’t THAT many strikers for a squad.
