We Need A Strong Personality - A LEADER

Leaders we have lost in the last three years - from both on and off the pitch positions

- A well capable management team - only we managed this TWICE
- Last winters transfer window a recently departed employee said it was a very successful one (measured by money only?) - only we binned three on the pitch leaders - Barnes, El-Abd and Bridcutt - to be replaced with?
- Then this summer we decided the leadership qualities of Ward, Andrews and Upson were all going to be adequately replaced by ....

Finally we seem to have woken up. It's not all about money.

A manager should be exactly that, allowed to manage and pick and choose HIS OWN players, and then live and die by the results they get him.

Personally I think only the manager needs to write a column in the programme, the club is about the team, managed by the manager, It's what fans want to read about and believe in

If strong-personality leaders mattered, DiCanio would still be managing Sunderland.

In the last three years - we also sold a certain two players - Cook and Elphick - both deemed not good enough - they seem to be doing ok too?

Nonsense. Leader with strong personality is not the same thing as Fascist Psycho...

Cook I agree with a bizarre sell, considering his performance against Southampton... Elphick was fourth in favour for a space in the team so if we can get a fee for the lad.. why not?

Cook was behind Elphick in the pecking order despite playing well in each of his (that I can recall) TWO appearances.........

At the time that they were sold, they were behind Greer & Upson, and an experienced El-Abd. It wasn't a case of not good enough, but that first team appearances were going to be limited, and they wanted regular football. They dropped a division to get it. The manager at the time said he didn't want to lose them, but understood their reasons for going.

During any succesful time we had leaders on the pitch but we do not have any other than Greer. Go back a few years and we had Carpenter Rogers Oatway and Cullip on the pitch togèther. If something went wrong on or the other would speak up and cajole the offending players now it just goes by the way.

Those were the days!, we all seemed as one then, players and fans together. As the great Micky Adams famously said to the opposition, mix with one of my players, and you mix with all of us.
