1. He's 34. 35 in November.
2. He played 11 games 3rd choice CB from 31st January 2014 for QPR. That's not injury prone.
3. We needed experience, a hole left by Upson. Unfortunately Kompany wasn't available.
This. But lets not get carried away with the true facts. Some people on here would moan if we had signed Kompany

im not saying we are in trouble, im saying we havent got a pot to piss in in regards that the budget doesnt allow for any transfer fees to buy new players

What is the budget then ?

in recent seasons we have yes, but we also made a few bad free signings too, just look at Vicente and the wages he was on and the amount of games he played in 2 seasons, hardly good value for money

We all thought that we needed a GK, LB, CB, MF, and FW, and i personally think we would have needed to spend between at least 500k to 1million on transfer fees for each position, so a transfer budget of 5 mil would have been reasonable.

Do you think that perhaps it might be a good idea to wait for the next seven weeks before the Transfer Window is closed to assume that we have no funds for players?

If everyone could post the number of games they've watched Hughes play in the last two seasons next to their opinions I'm sure it would help immensely.

I think this is a great signing and he'll be a key part of our defense. (0)

Do you also think that, we have signed 2 players on free signings, and absolutely nothing else, weeks of no postive hints of who we are in for, no official bids for players made

How do you know we haven't got that much? Not many non parachute payment clubs are spunking money about, and, as mentioned before, there are still over three weeks till the season starts. Just because the club doesn't inform the press, NSC old uncle Tom Cobbely and all, about their buisness, it doesn't mean there is none going on. How often hd Hughes been mentioned on here or anywhere else as one of our targets? I don't think I've seen him mentioned on here, in the papers (including The Argus), or on any of those oh so reliable interweb rumour sites. We only find out when the club wants it known, and I quite like it like that, very professional

So, spunk the playing budget on transfer fees to keep the bed wetters happy is better than bringing in free transfers and using the kitty to pay players is the best way to go is it? You do realise that every penny spent on transfers comes out of the playing budget don't you?

I have no idea of how to run a football club and clearly neither do you but I do know that finite funds is exactly that. We do not have umpteen millions from parachute payments so things must be done much smarter and blowing the entire budget on transfer fees ain't smart.

Vicente can come back tomorrow as far as I am concerned, as long as I get to see him play for 30 minutes every fourth match. Cracking player.

What is an official bid, the club won't come out and say we bid for x player but it got turned down. However, we bid for baldock and as for positive news, the club keep things very close to their chest re signings.

Just wonder, in respect that we have the highest attendance in this division, a very high profile main sponsor, would like some feedback from Bloom on how much money is actually available ? its ok to expect a manager to assemble a squad to achieve a play off position, but can't he provide a top 6 budget rather than a budget significantly lower if he really expects this !!! Stop playing with us Tony Bloom, if you really do want us in the premier league, put your money on the table

What with Greer at the back the physio will need a can of WD40 in his bag this season to oil the creaking bones. How many times will we be exposed to pace again I wonder.

 Yea, because Greer & Upson were a really awful pairing weren't they despite their lack of pace?

Not so many weeks ago, Tony Bloom stated in an interview that the club wouldn't be rushed into making new signings, and only making the best available signings for the club, i relation to budget etc

No disrespect to Aaron Hughes, but at 35 yrs old, injury prone and hardly getting a game in the championship last year with QPR, yes we have landed him on a free transfer, not sure what sort of wages he would demand, but just doesnt this signing show us where we really are at, relying on free signings because we havent got a budget big enough to fork out for transfer fees ???

Sorry to say it, but im afraid that we havent got a pot to piss in !!!!!

Sell ULLOA to Leicester for £7.5 million now and reinvest quickly

Can't believe Bloom has spunked so much money on the club. He'll never get it back as we'll never reach the premiership and to be honest, we have more chance of being relegated than being promoted. If I was Bloom and had his wealth then I'd buy this and enjoy my life with my family instead.

Stress free :)
