Tactics or performance. ?

How did our tactics change in the second half ?

First half last night was performance hampered by tactics. We were on the back foot from the start and Bissouma and Propper clearly didn't understand their roles

We were abysmal for the first 60 minutes? Didn't you watch the second half? We considerably upped our game and Sky's commentators praised our change and the possession stats showed our dominance. So no, whilst we were very bad for the first 45, we weren't for 60.

We looked slightly brighter at the beginning of the 2nd half but we still looked like we were never going to score. Bong, March et al squandering numerous presentable opportunities to cross the ball. I think nearly every one of Bong's crosses was blocked by the first man. I would still describe that as unacceptably poor at this level.

Hooten still won't change at half time.....

Changing is not all it's cracked up to be. This Hooten, ex-footballer, has changed much for the worse.

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/...ted-footballer-jailed-knife-robberies-1826545

Hooton, who spent 18 months at Coalville Town before moving to Basford United, in Nottinghamshire, two years ago, robbed two shops at knifepoint in Sutton-In-Ashfield on Sunday, April 22.

He left with cash, energy drinks, vodka and chewing gum.
(exactly what I would take if I was alcohol intoxicated)

Moments later, he used the knife to threaten a woman in the street.

Can scarcely recall a worse first hour than tonight, and I saw many of our defeats between 1997-99. I'm probably not a bedwetter, although I am a certified bellend.

Tactically shambolic, although almost totally redeemed by the seemingly miraculous result.

It's aggravating when people spend so much money and effort to follow us away only to witness the same uselessly hesitant approach for more than a year now. Can't convincingly complain when we've had so many great home results, but if that stops, we are scuppered.

Give over! I saw all our home games at Gillingham and we were lucky if we once strung 3 consecutive passes together in a whole game. I wouldn't call you a bellend, but I do suspect your sheets are moist this morning.....

Personally I thought we were much worse in the first half vs Fulham*. I quite enjoyed the first half ystrday, even though we weren't all that good. Versus Fulham, I actually walked out at 0-2, so disgusted was I (but we scored while I was taking a farewell slash, so I came back, much to the derision of my near neighbours in WU).

My only point was, ok, not a great first half, but we really aren't far away, and we in no way resemble Macclesfild Town (currently in the same league position we were in during our first season at Pissfilled). I have told pople a million billion times to not exaggerate.:wink:

* OK, it seemed worse in that I felt worse watching it.

You are the second poster to suggest we were as bad or worse in the first half against Fulham. It’s great that we all have different opinions but I assuming that you were coming down from a trip in the first half against Fulham, if you can suggest that was worse than last night’s first half whilst keeping a straight face

Mmmmm....its true I was not feeling myself at the Fulham game, with a 2 hour drive to the Amex not adding to my joie de vivre. Watching on the tellybox with a couple of pals and a lake of wine may have given me a different perspective last night.

My memory bank is telling me that the whole 90 minutes at Watford was worse!
That really really REALLY was the pits.

I can barely recall us crossing the halfway line, let alone getting into any goalscoring positions in that game.
At least tonight we had the AK shot that got charged down in the 1st half, plus Bissouma's run that could have been productive if he hadn't slightly over run the ball .... and in the first 15 minutes of tonight's 2nd half Propper missed an easy header and there were other opportunities too.

I would suggest Watford was way worse ...........

It was...........we were absolute turd literally the whole game at Watford...............last night we were for the first half but not the second. Even their pen was against the run of play.

There should be some sort of Seagulls initiation programme which includes being forced to watch a 90min recording of an Albion match at Gillingham (and with no distractions such as a mobile phone).

Not sure the tactics were really much different (not that I'd know anyway :D), but the intent/effort certainly looked like it was...........looking to go forwards instead of sideways/backwards, much quicker to the ball/tackle......so maybe it was mostly a simple half time rocket. A saints mate of mine messaged me at half time to say looked like we needed one.

Yep, you're right.

I need to dig out that highlights vhs that was a rare win over Rochdale and a draw with Donny

Struggling to reconcile 'defensive mentality' with 16 goals in 5 games (F7 A9). It was positively gung-ho in 2nd half.

i didn't see last nights game and am restricted to watching on tv most of the time , we are capable of mixing it with most teams on our day so why we would sit back against a team like savamptun , as others have said , is beyond me ......CH said it felt like a win ....!! when will the players think " fsake...if we'd played like that from the start we probably would have got 3points"....i just don't get the ponderously slow build up and constant backward passes , one minute we've got a corner 10 seconds later Matty's looking to punt it into touch just past the halfway line ....what's the point .

If there’s one place in this league you’d fancy an away team to get a result it’s Southampton, yet that’s now two seasons in a row where our tactics have ensured we’ve scraped a draw.

Yep. Without Hughton adapting his tactics, motivating the players at half time, and making key substiutions, we'd have lost.

I think that we or rather CH suffers with a fear factor away until we see how the other team is performing. I would however, sooner have him in charge than that muppett Hughes.
