Why on earth not?

Cooper is a young up coming manager. If Swansea miss out on Promotion then it would alert a lot of clubs. Done well at Swansea.....better than Potter some would say, has connections with the England set up, been linked to moves to the Premier league, again.....press talk.

Mainly because of style. Have you watched them play?

Why go for Cooper when there is plenty of alternatives in that category of managers - Tony Pulis, Sam Allardyce, Neil Warnock.

Unless TB and DA feel like throwing all the talk about a Brighton way of playing in the bin, there won't be any Steve Cooper at Brighton. Watch any Swansea game or read any match thread on Planet Swans and you might get an idea of why he is not going to manage Brighton. CP is a far more likely destination for him.

If TB would go for another Championship manager in the future, there are lots of more exciting alternatives.

Being a tactics obsessed manager fanboi makes you the weirdo, not the 99% of people on this board who have spent their life supporting their local community club through thick and thin. And when those people are allowed in the ground, some of their best times are when the team wins when it shouldn't. I can still remember us absolutely mugging Leicester a few seasons ago. The contrast in expressions on the train home told you all you need to know about why this game is so loved. On the counter, had fans been in for the Palace game this season, their end would have gone absolutely stark staring mental when they scored the winner to the point of pitch invasion while our stands would have emptied. The fact we played them off the park would only have made it worse.

I dont mind being the weirdo.

I'll just leave this here.

Appalling statistic which really does leave Potters P45 on TB's desk . . . . Or at the very least 'heres the striker, its the last chance saloon chump'

Brighton have won just four of their 25 Premier League games against sides in the relegation zone (16%) - the lowest win rate of any club in the competition.

Luckily wins against other teams still give three points.

Amazed by some of the comments on here.

What do people really expect from this squad of players and with the budget we have?

Of course it's disappointing to constantly be a struggling side in the Prem but considering we have next to nothing up front (and have done for most of the last 4 seasons) I would argue to stay up each season has been a real achievement. Like trying to complete a circuit of an F1 track in a car with only 3 wheels.

For the last 3 seasons we have won 9 games and we are only 2 away from repeating that this season. Nobody likes seeing us struggle but in the bigger scheme of things our position is reflective our our financial position and size of club. Unless Tony decides to break FFP or anyone else on here wants to chuck a couple of hundred million towards the club to strengthen it, we will always be in a similar position baring the odd exceptional season that we are all hoping may occur once in a blue moon.

I accept over the 9 month season our win ratio is broadly speaking 1 win per month and I just think others need to accept this is where we are.

The points tally hasn’t improved much yet. That’s a fact.
We are nearer being in a position to make the next step though, due to a general improvement in squad quality and depth.
To put it another way, if you added that mythical quality striker to the squad now, I would fancy us to make a big push next season - in there with Wolves, Leeds, Southampton.
If you added him to last season’s squad, there would still be considerable work to do to get out of that bottom six.
This is not the exciting leap we all crave, but it could be significant longer term.

I agree, but I can see where frustration has set in for many who desperately want to see points on the board and an avoidance of our annual dance with relegation. From a personal point of view, I have grown frustrated at our complete inability to defeat the teams below us, we simply have no answer for their resilience, it’s not necessarily just tactics, we often look lethargic so possibly a mentality issue, another factor has to be that without Lamptey we don’t have a single player with pace to burn. At a guess I’d say Ben White is probably our quickest player currently available.
As a side note, it didn’t particularly surprise me that the comedy goal we conceded came down the flank that White usually patrols, I believe his pace and reading of the game works have nullified that attack before it really got going.

One wonders what actually goes on at our multi million pound training facility with regards to passing, crossing , free kicks and shooting practice for the players to pick up thousands of pounds per week .

We saw it last night.

They work on reinventing how to take a corner.

Clearly the practise stops after the first 'surprise' pass is made, they don't bother to see the ball into the goal.

Too emotional intelligent to work on plans B, C & D in readiness for when the opposition say 'nope, we're just gonna stand here and defend".

I know we have no March or Lampty but if you are playing a side that hardly scores a goal and defends you have to have width. Potter paid to make decisions and think he chose wrong one in having same attacking unit as we did against Chelsea.

If you are serious, and I haven't been wooshed, then you are a disgrace to the good name of Brighton football club.

You may (don't) like Potter, but do you really think the right thing to do for when fans get back into the ground, after the last year we have had, is to demonstrate against the manager.

****ing idiot...

Absolutely! First chance we get. No time to hang about as we will only have one match to voice our opinion.

Couldn’t read your last word before idiot because it’s stared out. But obviously your not name callin as that’s you losing the argument already. Which makes your opinion unimportant.

I was very close to throwing things last night but am trying to be calmer this morning. There has been progress under Potter in our performances against teams in the top 6 and this significant. However we really struggle in games when the weight of expectation is on us. Managers of teams in the bottom half know that if they can go in at half time with a position to hold then as long as they keep shape and concentration they are very likely to hold it and that if we do get a chance then there is an increasingly very high probability we will fluff our lines as the half goes on. A problem is that a number of our players look as if hey fear that this is true.
A highly effective and highly priced striker would make a difference but they are difficult to find and the league is littered with expensive failures and that won’t compensate for slow and predictable approach play. Many of the problems may well be psychological which is a surprise given Potter’s academic background. Maybe having crowds back in will help as home fans will apply a different type of pressure and motivation. Overall though I hate watching these games and take no pleasure at all from attractive interplay when I have no expectation of any end product. Last night I decided that the best time to refill my glass in the kitchen was when we had a corner as there was no possibility that I would miss anything.

Part of me thinks it’s very simple. Our players just aren’t good enough to pick off teams who sit back in numbers. When we eventually carve out a chance it falls to Maupay who appears to have Toblerones on his feet instead of football boots.

We’ve really missed March and Lamptey, too.

Everything else is fine.

Frustrating as hell. And last night’s performance deserves a bashing,
Never forget our relative budget though. It makes it inevitable we will be terrible ever now and again. Accept it, as part of the deal for being a fan of a non-elite club. I love supporting a club that is a bit off the radar.
People’s tolerance is too low, IMO.
Tony (and us) strive for top ten but since when did staying up in the Premier League become a failure for Brighton?

Simple answer.
Not losing to a team that have already been relegated, the same team we also nearly lost to at home when they had 1 point before they played us.

I expect our team to turn up against Sheffield United and West Brom like we did against Chelsea last week.

Again, I agree with parts of what you say. Nobody can ever forget our budget on here as it’s often trotted out after a particularly poor result. We’re not good enough and don’t have a talented enough squad to avoid having off days or just being crap, but the real frustration is that those ‘off days’ seem to be reserved exclusively for the worst teams. We haven’t been schooled in any game this season other than the 3-0 lesson we received at the KP stadium. We’ve gone toe to toe with Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Everton, Leicester (at home), Man City and Leeds, yet against WBA, Fulham and Sheff Utd we’ve never got off the bus. There is something inherently wrong about how we approach these fixtures, we know how they’re going to play, they know how we’re going to play. They prevail more often than not.
Obviously staying in the Premier League is a massive achievement, but our dear chairman must want to see progress, not just aesthetically but in the points column. As good as the football can be, if you circle the plug hole for long enough eventually you’ll go down it.
