[Albion] We are no better than last season

I assume no-one still believes Maupay should be our striker next season. Don't mind as a sub/backup, or sell and get replacement (preferable). He's young, yes, but doesn't appear to be improving - the writing is on the wall imo. Zequiri I think is a better prospect, no idea why he wasn't playing tonight.

The team are playing better, but not up front (I include all attacking players in this comment). Is it players not good enough, or poor coaching?

Is the writing on the wall for Potter? Who knows. Club wants progression, we've made 2 steps forward and 2 back. Next season, as it stands, clubs will know how to play against us - just sit back/defend/counter attack. More and more clubs will do this as they know playing more opens more clearer opportunities for our forwards to score.
I doubt we'll beat Liverpool/Spurs like we did this season next year, so improvement from somewhere is needed. You simply have to dispatch the poorer teams - Do we have the players to do this? Do we have the manager to do this? Do we need better of one, or the other, OR both?

Assuming we stay up of course!

Wow.

We were dogshit in the first half, but....???

Catshit in the second.

This is not "entitled". We just lost to a side who had 14 points in 32 games prior to today. Who had Oli Norwood playing the whole game - a player Barbs and Hughton binned off out of our promotion squad, given he'd been a sub through most of it. We stuck the ball in once - from an offside position. We put a trainee Irish forward in at wing back and marvelled when he didn't touch the ball. We were shit tonight from back to front and back again.

It’s not a fact though is it?

And any reason why you didn’t post this after the excellent Chelsea performance? Our most complete performance against a top 6 side in our 4 Premier League seasons?

Yes, it's a fact.

If we finish above 15th or get more than 41 points I'll apologise and withdraw. Will you if we don't?

Very difficult to defend anything about tonight’s performance. Particularly poor. 2nd half flattered us a bit through Sheff Utd sticking with what they had.

For me lack of urgency and speed in much of our play, I think Trossard was the most guilty of this, followed by Gross, followed by Moder and given they all went off, says to me they weren’t following instructions.

There are gaps in our quality. We have to accept that, but doesn’t excuse not being at the right level tonight.

And we all know you'll defend games like tonight just so you can be seen to be on the cutting edge of hipster football even if we go down.

My emotions are up and down about this manager and team. One week with Swansman, the next with Guinness Boy.

Tonight with the latter.

****ing pissed off the with the pathetic defending for the opener, so often the key moment in any game. Don’t go by the catalogue of bad luck excuse for it either. Elite level defenders make their own luck.

There was a laid back, slow arrogance to that first 60 minutes “We’ve arrived, we play the beautiful game, we’ll score goals don’t worry about that”.

When top teams are flying, they still earn wins by athleticism, work rate, bite in the tackle, hunger. We lacked that.

THE KEY FACT doesn’t lie, we’re in the relegation mix and choked on a golden opportunity to gain three points tonight.

I’ll repeat the old pro sport adage, If are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing.

Second best to the basement club, we lost, what a shit end to the day.

Where have I defended tonight’s game? I’m as disappointed and pissed off as everyone else.

You defend a Manager who is clearly not up to the standard to be some sort of social media icon. You are a complete tool.

But we’ve still got 5 games left so how can you so confidently state it’s a fact now? It clearly isn’t.

And when you look at our performances overall, it’s clearly not true either.

And as I say, any reason why you didn’t post this thread after the Chelsea game if it’s such a ‘fact’ that we’re worse than last season?

Potter's not going anywhere after we gave him that bumper deal because he didn't shit the bed in his first two months.

Maupay is a clear upgrade on Sam Baldock, the problem is we're trying to make him the upgrade on Glenn Murray and he just isn't clinical enough.

Boring. Others who are anti Potter at least have more analysis and things to say. You just repeatedly say the same couple of lines with a few insults. You’re just not very smart to be honest.

I don’t defend the manager at all for tonight, shocking performance.

We are a below average quality Prem team, paying below average money.
That means every now and again we will be utter shite.
But we are, on the whole, improving IMO.

This!

we have lost by more than 1 goal 3 times this season.
I think it was 6 last season.

We have been competitive in all but 2 games this season.
We haven't broken through yet, but are improving in all areas except in front of goal.

Claiming that we are arguably worse is just a fishing trip, by someone who is feeling a bit grumpy after the worst performance of the season.Which wasn't as bad as any of our worst last season Fact :moo:
