Welbeck looked like he was struggling with an injury after that heavy foul in the first half

Inidividual by individual, our players did well today. Martin won them a point with his use of the wing backs today, creating trouble for us in defence and preventing us from taking high enough risks in attack.

Ayari and O'Riley dont know much about covering spaces in the defensive third of the pitch so whenever Southampton overloaded, they were elsewhere than they needed to be for us to work it out.

The signs were there in first half. 0-0 would have been a better result for us at that point as that would have forced changes, but we went on the same way and they exploited it.

Too bad because Mitoma, JP and Rutter all looked rather hot today.

First half of was ok. Should have taken our chances and gone in 2 or 3 up.
Given we only seem to have one good half these days we spent half time trying to g to work out if that was our good half or not. Split decision. Turns out it was.

Maybe. Or he was just a bit invisible. The disadvantage of playing him, Rutter and JP at the same time is that it makes him a much more peripheral character because they kind of all want to do the same thing.

I agree it's a mentality issue, but don't think it's arrogance. I think it's more not being able to handle the weight of expectation, which tonight must have been huge. We've a squad full of youngsters, which maybe is part of the problem. Not that I think our squad is a problem, I think they're f***ing brilliant. Just struggling to get to grips with the emotional side of the game maybe.
If only we had a manager with a degree in 'Emotional Intelligence'.
Oh.

I thought those 3 didn’t work well together today and MoR kept getting in the mix as well..all a bit disjointed and deffo some leggy performances, though to be expected from some coming back from injuries.

Home record
UNITED/CITY/SPURS. 9 pts
WOLVES/FOREST/IPSWICH/SAINTS. 4 pts

Ridiculous
Ridiculous and also logical at the same time.

The teams we beat spend most time working on dissolving tight defences. They struggle against us.
Bottom teams spend most time working on defending against dominant teams. We struggle against them.

The rock-paper-scissor thing is not optimal for us in these types of games.

Sure, would have hoped or even expected a bit more given the game solvers we've brought in. But then again I didn't expect as good results against the top teams so it evens out I guess.

Our midfield struggle when teams come on to us and play with freedom. Missed Baleba in that second half. And Dunk returning could have come sooner, for the organisation and leadership as much as his play.
Dunk didn’t put a foot wrong when he came on however putting JP in a 3 seemed to open us up down the right

We were lucky to get a point in the end

We should have scored at least 3 in the first half.

Also Downes IMO should have got a second yellow

Maybe Rutter should have been subbed instead of Pedro? I think Pedro still had something up his sleeve.
Rutter looked shattered, put in a real shift our MOM I think.
Weird game, we never really took it by the scruff of the neck and kicked on making the most of our dominance in the first half.
They did their homework, whilst being 1-0 down and the weaker team, you will always be in with a chance against us. We just haven’t learnt to deal with that type of game yet, it will come 👍

Makes it worse. Engrained in club culture imho. On the plus side at least it saves the country from Barber doing the podcast rounds this week having spent £200m to watch that shite
