They spent the last 15 minutes playing for a 1-0 loss. They had their destiny in their own hands but decided to accept defeat and hope a result goes their way in another game. They took off an attacking player for a defensive one. It's tactical, sporting and moral cowardice. If that's your idea of good, sporting tactics then...:nono:
Exactly. It’s totally different to taking the ball into the corner in the 90th minute as that is normally done by teams that are winning.

As you say, Japan had more confidence in another team (Colombia) playing hundreds of miles away than they did in themselves. Cowards.
Of course it's not what the fans pay to see, it's not what the sport needs, but it got them through, so it's pretty understandable.

It's not that they have more confidence in another team - they'd have tried to get a positive result against Poland, but they failed to. And they wouldn't have relied on Colombia winning until Colombia were winning. With 10-15 minutes to go, they had a decision to make, and for getting through, they made the right one.

Of course it stinks, but :shrug:
