Rooney did ok at Derby.

But how much of that was down to Rosenior?
For a short while at the very start, yes. But in 4 years of management this is it; he’s a woeful manager.

I respect the bloke and wish him well. And Argyle are a great club. Like all managers he needs time, the backing of the board, and patience of the support.
.....and some managerial ability?

The free-fall he put them in significantly contributed though.
I think he was in charge for less than a 3rd of season. I was merely pointing out that saying he relegated them is incorrect. He was APPALLING......but he didn't relegate them.
And in the play off places when he joined.

W5 D3 L3

His spell
W2 D4 L9

From 6th down to 20th

After him
W6 D4 L10
So he was in charge for 15 games and there were 20 games after him. Thanks.

"Burrrgle"? I see no reason or evidence that Rooney has or should have attempted to learn to speak West Country, like the Wurzels. Maybe there's some other point you're trying to make? Is there some trope or other that I'm missing?
Wasn't going to respond to this but calling it "trope". Well. The Scouse accent means the letter R is more pronounced and D is often a substitute for T.

I should know. I've got a Liverpudlian dad who I take the pee out of occasionally for the stereotype but he's lost most of the accent and can take a joke. In fact he usually starts dem!

*sigh* Wurzels? WTF? They're from BRISTOL. Over 130 miles from Plymouth.

Edit: Wurzels from Somerset although Bristol City's club anthem is "Drink up the cider!"

If we're going to be pedantic about it, they're from Somerset, not Bristol.

I've seen them at the Fleece in Bristol - incredibly sticky floor and about 50% of the audience wearing some sort of tweed. Also there was a guy there who looked EXACTLY like Tyson Fury. Normally I'd obviously reject the idea that a professional boxer would be at a Wurzels gig the night before a fight, but with Fury this seemed eminently plausible.

Would like Rooney to do well, he was quite gracious in defeat when interviewed, will be keeping an eye on developments this season

I too have lived in Liverpool for several years, and recognise the burglar trope when I see it. So calm down, calm down, calm down eh? Yes, and The Wurzels had fine Somerset/Bristol accents, in which burrrrgle sounds much closer to reality than scouse!

Whatever is said about Rooney, he was a great footballer. But getting his point over to players not of his quality isn't easy. I know how to wire a 3 pin plug, but teaching my wife to do it is damn near impossible. He knows by instinct when to smash a shot but teaching that to championship players?

I really don’t think he is a good communicator, and that is where the problem lies

But this is exactly what sets managers apart, the ability to know and understand your players and communicate your ideas and your tactics to them. If he has players who cant do certain things, then it's futile to ask them to do so. The manager should be the best judge of this.
