I also have some good friends who are Newcastle fans and can also confirm that you are very wrong.

Ashley spent as little as possible on the club infrastructure during his tenure. The PoF football pod worked out he’d spent the lowest amount on club infrastructure out of all the EPL sides in the last 10 years, (something in the order of) 20% of the second lowest team which was Norwich who’s spent a number of those 10 years in the Championship.

Ashley wasn’t the worse owner, not like Archer at all, but Newcastle fans never had hope under his tenure. Hope is so important as a fan. For comparison, I’ve had hope since day 1 of Tony Bloom, even then, I never really believed we’d ever get into the EPL, and now we’re top 10 with the best squad of players the Albion has ever had. Hope is everything.

What spending in included in ‘club infrastructure ?’ I had the impression they had spent quite a bit on transfer fees and salaries under Ashley. I might be wrong.

fair play to him refused to talk to everton about the managers job, many other managers would have left derby if offered another job

Keeping Derby up this season would be far more impressive than anything he could do with Everton.

It's not as if the Everton job won't be available in the summer...

Rooney has taken a lot of stick in his life (some rightly so) but I am really impressed by this. He knows Derby are almost certainly doomed, but refusing to leave a sinking ship.

I don't think they are doomed at all, still plenty of games to go and they are playing far better than other teams in the bottom 5-6. Vastly superior goal difference too, just need to turn a few more draws in to wins.

BBC web page says Everton approached Rooney but he turned them down, saying he has an important job to do at Derby.

Good man, and good luck to him.

Rooney really impressing and not using any shortcuts, well done by him. Might turn into a great manager.

IMO they are a little bit doomed. Awful lot of points and judging from how EFL acts, could turn into more points deducted any time. They also just lost one of the best defenders in the Championship and are not allowed to replace him.

I never really liked him as a player - but for a top player, who wishes to become a good manager in his own right, I can't help but feel he's doing this the right way (compared to the majority of the recent younger managers)...

A lot of the recent ones would have jumped at the opportunity to manage their boyhood club in the best league in the world if offered - especially if you're at a proverbial sinking ship (which isn't his doing) - and he's stuck to his guns and is seeing it out. Good on him.

They are doing brilliantly, making a go at survival and not to be rock bottom is an achievement in itself. Reading and Cardiff will be looking over their shoulder but I can't see Derby getting the c32 points need for them to stay up.

Wazza has done a quite magnificent job, some people lookvery foolish now judging by some posts in the beginning of the thread.

It's a bit odd that he can't be faithful to his wife and mother of his children but can be towards a badly run football club

This, easy option to jump straight to the PL and you're own club and manor.

To stay and fight for down and out Derby, shows character and integrity.

Fair play Wazza. A lot of respect as many would jump for the extra cash and better league.

Indeed - While not at the erection of statue point, he's edging toward the photo in tunnel :) More seriously, there were many doubters through last season and early this, there are few now.

96th minute overhead kick equaliser from a centre half.

Fair play to The Way.

No way would that equaliser have stood in The Premier League. Player that headed it back across from the free kick looked offside, and even if that was missed, it would probably have been chalked off for dangerous play from the scorer.

True but they would also have had an earlier penalty for handball.
