Yes...agreed. The only way we were going to keep Bridge was to get promoted. We knew what was at stake and unfortunately, we blew it. It is unlikely we'll keep Upson either so the defence ain't looking too promising at mo.

Would be interesting to know if we actually made him an offer. £20k a week for a year is just over £1m, realistically if we are going to buy a new left back and pay the wages then we're not going to have much change from £1m anyway.

You sure? I thought he was a left sided player (LB mainly) who can play CB if required.

Pretty sure he only played cb in the ds and on loan at Yeovil

we were lucky to have him on such a 'good deal' last year, which makes us falling short seem even more like a massively lost opportunity - in truth Reading could triple or more his wages and at his age that will always swing it. Doubt this has anything at all to do with our manager situation, pure salary economics plus the fact Reading isn't that far from Esher where he lives and on paper, Reading look a better prospect than us to go straight back up.....Pity though, he was a class up on most of the squad when on form.

All the while we have no manager we will be signing no players, it really is that simple, the longer this drags on the more unseccesful our season will be next year.

Indeed, Gus has been a massive factor in getting certain players into the Albion. How many times has a player said that "Gus sold Brighton as a club to me"? Surely the fact that nobody knows who our manager is next season will deter some if not all transfer targets until its sorted out!

Gus and Wayne are mates they socialise together in there free time, a friend of mine was at a party held by his Wayne’s agent Aaron Lincoln and they came together (so to speak)

any player coming in will say it is the manager - quickest way to get in good books and be picked. It is pretty clear GP had his favourites so no wonder players never said a bad word, quickest way to get into reserves. Reality these days is players (or more accurately their agents) sign for money and money alone and only time a manager factor applies is where the player has history with the manager so opts to go elsewhere. No manager hasn't stopped Manchester City signing world class players, I don't for a second think it is making much difference to us.

That's rubbish though isn't it. Self-serving assessment. It's more likely that we were never going to sign him because our wage structure wouldn't have allowed us to. Gus or no Gus - Wayne Bridge was always going to go. Stop using it as a stick to beat the club.
