'Bridge, who was released by Manchester City at the end of the season, said: "I'm delighted to be signing for Reading and excited to be joining a team that is going to be looking for promotion next season."

I hope im reading too much into that statement.

One year contract. I expect he'll retire after that.

There was another deals Paul Barber ****ed up.

Not many know this, but at the end of last season, Gus and Tanno had managed to talk Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney into signing for us.

Frank was a free transfer on £5k a week, and they had agreed a fee of £1million for Wayne Rooney on a 5 year contract, worth £6 grand a week and a subscription to Teletubbies Weekly (they were even going to deliver it to his front door every week)

Paul Barber got news of this and pulled the plug on both deals.

Just to upset Gus.....

shocking really

Read about Bridge and nearly shit a Cow !!
Not happy !!
Is this going to be yet ANOTHER season of Brighton missing out on players and maling signings a week before the season starts or later ?
Every season this happens.
Even worse this season with no manager too !!

I wouldn't panic yet, the core of your squad is still very much a strong one, there are plenty of left backs about in the loan market at the moment too. Despite Bridge's comments, I'm sure you guys will still be up there, with or without Gus. If you replace him with a manager of a similar style, Luis Enrique a name to throw out there, then you can build on the work that Gus has done and very much improve it.

Considering how our club is run, I can't see Bridge being offered any more than £35,000 a week. At 32, how did he look like he was coping with pace? Poyet seemed to be very complimentary of his fitness despite his age. What are his basic strengths and weaknesses?

He had a few off games, and in the later parts of the season seemed to be huffing and puffing a bit, and a few niggly injuries. But overall, he looked to cope extremely well in the Championship, reads the game very well and isn't shy of getting forward. Even contributed 3 goals. Will team up well with a tricky winger on the left, such as he did with LuaLua for us.

That's probably 3 times what we could offer him. He did miss quite a few games with niggly injuries but I get the feeling he didn't play if he wasn't 100%. Gus did seem to not play him if there was any risk of a breakdown, Two games a week was a problem I seem to recall but I could be wrong.

I think you'll be impressed, especially with his pace and ball skills on the break, we didn't really get forward as a team quickly enough to really capitalise a lot of the time imo.

At the end of my tether
Bad news but we only have ourselves to blame. Whatever the money,or not?, would you sign for a club when you do not know who will manage you?

He got a good offer and we cannot blame him for taking it...A precedent to be followed by Dave and Upson no doubt...:ffsparr:

Because he is already a multi-millonaire?

In my (limited) experience, people who are multi-millionaires are not inclined to take less money because of the fact that they are rich - usually the opposite (although Wayne Bridge could not have hoped for more than his previous deal).
