I'd usually agree but I've heard that this one could actually be true.

agree. Bridge has no hunger for the game any more. It would be a signing on name alone. If we did sign him, Gustav would have to reignite his passion for the game.

Yes because that has worked for English football for so long! Asking to play 4-4-2 is like wanting VHS and lead petrol back. I think its been well shown that this formation is too rigid and doesn't allow players to get in the space on the wings or just in front of the back 2.

I don't think there's anything wrong with 4-4-2 per se. I think the Italians played this formation against the Germans and took them to the cleaners. The two strikers had the German back four all over the place. 4-4-2 doesn't mean you have to lump the ball forward. It's the flexibility within a system, and ability to morph into different disciplined formations during different phases of a game (eg full back pushes forward, team adopts a 3-5-2) where I think England have been shown to be rigid and out of touch in recent years. Fundamentally our problem is more technical ability than formation though.

Agreed I like 4 - 4 -2 and if you have good strikers that can move around then it can work! if the strikers can pull the defense out of position this gives midfield space to run in to and BANG!

But Prandelli doesn't play it with wingers, more of a narrow 4-1-3-2 or 4-2-2-2 with the front two, and midfielders behind providing the width when needed.

The story I heard from someone who goes to the same horse riding stables as JT's wife (somewhere down Steyning way) is that JT and his missus were having threesomes with the lady (!) and that's why JT's missus disn't bat an eyelid when the story broke. She heard this direct from JT's missus who seemingly rather enjoyed the threesomes (as, I'm sure, did JT). 442 is a solid defensive formation, as shown by England, Chelsea et al. It has to be more flexible going forward such as holding midfielder sitting, full backs and/or wide midfielders pushing on down the wings and attacking midfielder getting into the box when the strikers drag the central defenders out of position..

With Bridcutt holding, a new combative midfielder winning the ball alongside Vicente/replacement and Buckley could we not have that flexible mix of power, presence and pace? That's before you even factor in Kaz or Noone. With two strikers I can't help but think me might get a little more joy with the runs and creation of space.
