Apologies if fixtures.
Good footage of the free kick, didnt appreciate how much it swerved, so maybe we have been harsh on Gonzo, but in saying that, from that angle, was the wall set up in the right place?

It's not swerved at all, just curled a bit. From the moment he hit it it was pretty obvious where it was going, and Gonzalez could have stood up and caught it had he been in the right place, never mind tipping it over the bar. Awful positioning and barely got off the ground when he tried to jump for it. Sorry, but he's not a kid starting out in the game, he's a mature professional goalkeeper, and that was an absolute clanger.

Thanks for posting that. I feel a LITTLE bit harsh about my assesment of it now. It takes two separate movements, including the late one that does for the keeper. Given all that, it was still saveable though, just not quite as shit as I thought.

Gonzo should have done better, but the ball certainly seemed to swerve a great deal, thus confounding the Colombian custodian - never mind

The west stand angle i got looked more like a keeper error. That angle makes me think the criticism of that goal were a tad harsh. I would enjoy seeing other angles. Not sure that the rest of his game was any good though. This maybe due to a dented confidence. He should get another chance what have we got to lose. Not a good start tho.

I don't think "he should have done better/could have saved it" and "it wasn't as bad an error as it initially looked" are mutually exclusive in this case.

More than a bit i would suggest looking at that angle.

Agree with most though that he the odds on him saving it should have been on his side.

That angle confirms how atrocious his attempt at saving it was. Pathetic. He's running to his left, then he falls to his right. I am a crap goalkeeper, and even I would have been embarrassed with that effort. That video provides no defence whatsoever for the ringer we had in goal last night.

Its not quite a clanger, but I would expect most professional goalkeepers to deal with that.

Blimey, that wasn't how I saw it last night. Still, it was hardly Roberto Carlos against France(?).

I agree with the views of NSC's resident custodian.

Am I the only one that thinks that was really difficult to save - initial flight is to Gonzos left which he tracks and wrongfoots him.

Yes he could have stayed in the same position and saved it - but would have looked a muppet if the ball went straight on.

Top free kick.

Poor positioning/timing to move right but a cracking free kick also. Definitely not worthy of the crowd getting on his back, 5 minutes into his debut.

Watching it again, that curls/swerves/dips/moves like an absolute BASTARD.
