The good news is that it looks like Watford's MOTM from Saturday, new signing Juraj Kucka is out injured for the visit to The Amex. Apparently he was an absolute rock in midfield with some crunch tackling that eventually saw his demise.

The bad news is that winger Ismaïla Sarr ripped Villa's Matt Targett to shreds who had to be substituted at half-time.
We are going to need someone a bit nippy at left-back to try and stay with Sarr and negate his threat.

So, you're not thinking Pascal Gross?

Solly March at LB/LWB seems to be the best option, the problem is, Sarr was a bigger threat on the break. If March is up pitch, that presents a problem. Potter needs to devise a shape where by Sarr is dragged back towards his own goal trying to pressure or mark our defensive players.

Their forum is an absolute disgrace. A horrific mishmash of topics ranging from football to Afghanistan to horse racing.

I'm now going to bed furious because of what I've just seen. Thanks Brighton you bunch of thundering dullards.

Or BDB after his showing against Traore last season.

I'm guessing the defending will need to start in midfield by trying to cut out the supply to Sarr.

Jakub Moder is probably a candidate on the left of midfield or even left wing-back.
Or maybe Solly being given a man to man marking job like he performed so brilliantly against Zaha, or Veltman for the job he did on Grealish.

This is the risk and the opportunity that GP deals with almost every game I think. Remember Gross played right-back vs Rashford at Old Trafford.. If we play well, keeping the ball, then we negate that threat to a greater degree (pretty well vs. Zaha for example) . As you say , the risk is going the other way if we give the ball way cheaply - that said, in this scenario, Duffy is the bigger concern for me - lots of wide open spaces and a fast forward on the break.....shiver......

Surely it will be Solly.

Then again, I thought the same thing last week..

Agree about March at LWB, but it's not a problem if Webster is playing LCB. He has the pace to nullify Sarr's counter-attacking threat. Ideally, a back five of:
Veltman, Duffy, Dunk, Webster, March

I'd far prefer to see 3 at the back to counter the threat of Watford pace than 2. Primarily it should be the job of the LCB and RCB to nullify the threats of their pacey wingers. The wing backs job more to give them something to think defensively.

I'd go

-------------Sanchez
----Veltman Dunk Webster
-------------Bissouma
Mwepu Lallana Moder March
--------------Trossard
--------------Maupay

Gross and MacAllister to get significant time off the bench.
Lack of specialist RWB not ideal I admit, but think we want Veltman in that back line for this one. That said, they're not Brazil 1970, so let's focus on attacking them, but they do have confidence, momentum and a specific style which it's worth making adjustments to nullify.
Big Shane very unlucky, but this would be a horses for courses selection

And. Do they still have that laughably tall bloke playing left-back? The one who looks like he should play basketball, but for a joke one day, someone made him play left-back and it just stuck. Sarr will make mincemeat of him.

I believe our lack of results against bottom 6 last season, was partially due to no fans.
My assumption is defending is much easier, when there is no noise in the stadium.

Sanchez looked all at sea in the first half at Burnley.
I suspect this was due to the noise from the home crowd.

I suspect we will do much better this season in home games.

Sanchez also had a few halves like that last season. I don’t think it supports your point.

Yeh, Burnley will always test a keeper in the air. But the hostility of that packed crowd would have been a new thing for him

Depends upon the player. It’s an interesting discussion. The counter argument is the players who are lifted and motivated by the atmosphere. Bissouma springs to mind. Probably anybody with a feisty personality. Who knows which camp Sanchez is in but he comes across as pretty driven and focused. Who knows ? He certainly had a very confident second half on Saturday like a lot of our players.

very little talk about this game on main board really , most threads rambling on about all manner of off topic crap.

Personally absolutely buzzing for saturday.

Excitement levels of having a massive session and being back at the amex pretty much similar to the Donny game.

Pub arrival time saturday midday

Following the news about Veltman, if we don't know how the Albion will set up then Watford won't have a clue.

Yes, Watford have threats in attack and they have pace, BUT I fancy we might sneak the 3 points. The crowd will make it difficult for Watford in the first 15 minutes, and if there is anything wrong then Potter will fix it at half-time. With Biss, Lallana, Mac, Moder, Gross and Mwpeu we have the tools to win the midfield battle.
