Just back from the game..

No idea why we suddenly decided to go for the long ball today - no passing it around at the back, just constant long balls to the front two. Harper seemed to be determined to put it over the halfway line every time he had the ball. Was this his own doing, or the tactical way we were approaching it today? Didn't work well against a big Watford team. They were stronger than us, and held onto the ball better than we did. When we did have the ball, they were quickly closing us down and harrassing whoever was on the ball.

Their goal was a touch fortunate - fell to one of their forwards 10 yards out who turned and hit it at Harper, who wasn't able to hold onto it due to the pace and angle of the shot. Not sure who the defender was that reacted first (Calderon?) but he arrived at the ball at the same time as 2 Watford players and the deflection just ended up in our net other than going in the other direction.

I think some of the problems may lie with the other side being extremely awkward and not rolling over against the passing game. By heavy pressing the a opponents will attempt to make Albion play long because all our players are either marked or the space is occupied. They are meant to get worn out chasing shadows.

Or in simple language: we have been sussed. By playing deep we encourage the opponents to hoof the ball into the channels. This tactic is not very good because it almost always relies on the opponents making a mistake. We oblige them.
