Oops, bit big. The hologram carries the Rolex crown above the number. Its probably trash, but its been going strong for 5 years and I've always liked it.

It’s a fake - although you probably guessed that . As long as you enjoy wearing it , doesn’t matter .

Question for those that may know.

I usually sell watches privately so not too sure on this.

But.

I have a 2014 Rolex batman that I want to sell. Mint condition, box and papers. If I sell via a store what % will/should they take?

Ie I'm thinking this would go for £12k(ish) privately. How much would a store give me? 9k?

Ta in advance ?

May I suggest contacting https://watchesofknightsbridge.com/ I've used them in the past, very fair and very quick and at least you will get hammer price less commission.

Problem with pulling my pone out to check the time is I always end up scrolling through some shite or another, putting my phone away and forgetting what the time is :lolol:

It's not a description I've ever heard before. But wherever you want to pull you pone is fine by me. Just make sure the rozzers aren't about. That fat **** Shipperly got in a bit of bother.

I was strolling in London after breakfast and stumbled upon a high-end used watch shop. I have little interest in watches, and don’t wear or own one, but found their two huge windows of used Rolex’s fascinating. Must have had around 70 or so, going back to 1950, the year and prices on display. Interesting to see how they’ve changed over the years and also the difference in how well they’ve been kept. Most were very well kept but for some reason one particular range, chunky with half and half blue red rimmed dial, had many with faded face and a bit lacklustre.

Honestly not fussed. I just like the thing, and am happy not to have paid the price of a holiday for it.

And that's the point. If you're happy with it (and probably 95% of people wont know the difference anyway) then what's the problem?

I get them as investments, but a real one doesn't go quicker (that would defeat the point) doesn't have better brakes (also), isn't more comfortable or massively fun to drive/wear, doesn't have adaptive cruise control or limited slip differential, isn't safer and can only go round corners as well as the car it's in / the driver who's wearing it etc etc etc.

So using my own analogy of people who don't "get" cars. I now completely disagree with myself as Easy's Rolex still looks like an old Rolex to me and the vast majority of the population if they walked past him in a boozer (think that hologram thing is nasty though mate but you can't see it while it's on so win win).

But I shall now shut up about watches as (clearly) if I had £50k to spend on one, I would buy another car, which would probably depreciate massively instead of an asset which could be worth a fortune in the future. So I'm most likely the idiot in this discussion.

Those chunky ****ers do all look pretty similar though, apart from zef's weird thing. I mean, what even is that? I like that one. :p

I'll add that the second hand on that watch sweeps in a pleasingly smooth fashion (I've never liked "tickers"). I don't quite understand why, but I always find that very satisfying. I also have a wall clock with a second hand that does a nice smooth sweep as well.

Easily pleased I guess. Just sit me in front of a CLOCK and I'm set for the evening - will probably be better than England v Denmark tonight.

They're the ones that get worn and used . . . . An old band mate had one, he was a mechanic, wore it all the time, had it serviced/spivved every year, like you would a car.

Exactly, I like my £20 watch as much as my prize, and MOnaco, horses for courses . . . . Get to work in a rush, borrow the wifes ALfa, nice weather/style Lambretta . . .ultimate cool . . . .slammed MK1 COrtina . . . .boot load of shit . . .Subaru estate!

The Tegrov is just a wierd/cool late 60's early 70's oddity, I love it. It's actually quite small, if it was bigger I'd like it even more, a third second dial would be awesome!

the chronos generally tick 4 times a second, quartz watches vary, more ticks, shorter battery life. Mrs Zef has a ladies TAG Heuer, when the batter goes flat it just moves the second hand And sweeps every 4 seconds, a good reminder. . .AFA18E19-AD65-4B48-B8CB-86825E18A715.jpeg

A moment of self awareness.

Buying a fake Rolex is risible. You have only to consider, what would be your response to a fake Ferrari? A fake Roller?

Buy and wear a decent watch or don't bother, use your phone to tell the time...

But the fake Ferrari or Roller would look and drive like a piece of shit. And EVERYONE would know that. Immediately.

I lost my sunglasses on a trip to Spain. Bought some fake Gucci's from a Chinese supermarket for €4 (I didn't even know they were Gucci, I just knew they looked good and were cheap).

Got away with them for a year, only realising that were supposed to be Gucci by the compliments.

Then they fell to bits, understandably for €4.

The cars would do the same except they wouldn't fool anyone. Easy's watch still works just fine, and most people, the vast majority of people, wouldn't have a clue that it was fake.

It's fine that you love watches, but you're onto a loser comparing them to cars. It really doesn't work on any level.

Bollocks.

I like the look of a Rolex on my wrist, but certainly not enough to pay five grand - there's about 5,000 other things I'd rather spend that kind of money on. I'm not overly stressing over having the "real thing" so I can ponce around impressing people - simple fact, its not for anyone else, its for ME. I like the look of it, and I don't really give a shit what anyone else thinks about it or whether they can (shock-horror) spot it as a fake. "Oh I'd just DIE dahhhling".

Get over yerself you snob.

And btw, I have a (genuine) Gucci that I've had for nearly 30 years that I also like wearing, it still keeps perfect time. Far more valuable obvs, but I go with what I like according to where I am or what I'm wearing.
