The answer is David Bentley. There was a man that could play and literally chose not to.

I disagree with your choices because I think you've chosen players that disappoint you rather than having not used their talent. Henderson, for example, is incredible.

EDIT : I can't be sure you weren't joking.

Neither can I

Which players have had massive talent, but, for one reason or another never achieved their potential.

I’ll start with Ravel Morrison, described by Fergie as the best young player he ever saw.
An absolute tragedy that he didn’t end up as a superstar.

Stealing Rio Ferdinand’s Rolex at the United training ground probably didn’t get him off on the right foot closely followed by being detained by Greater Manchester Police for threatening to throw acid in his girlfriend’s mother’s face. 🙈

I think he might have a troubled mind.

Albion wise, three names that always stick out for me, Jeff Minton and Junior Macdougall given the reputations they arrived at the Goldstone with from Tottenham, and Robert Codner to my mind the biggest Albion underachiever ever, we only saw brief glimpses of how good he could have been.

Interesting focus on players who actually made it but under achieved , i suspect the academies have a lot who are 'brilliant' but don't get much further and indeed from personal experience the best footballer in my year just stopped playing though another talented but IMO not as good player ended up at the Albion.
