The South Coast coronation - if there is to be one - is when Southampton get relegated and not before.

The thing about Southampton is that between 2013-17 they finished 8th, 7th, 6th and 8th before the annual cull of their best players eventually took its toll. They've not finished top half since..

We've managed to cope with the departures of White, Biss and Cucu due - in part - to the skills of a scouting personnel who have now largely departed.

The vultures are also circling for Trossard and Caicedo. We will do well to finish top half if we lose both of those; potentially the big name departures could start to bite in 2023, and therefore I'm not crowning anything until some of our newer crop show that they can pass muster. There are still big question marks over Undav, Van Hecke, Gilmour, Enciso and whether Moder will return anything like his best.

Yet while we've lost 3 players with a potential 2 to follow just look at who Saints lost in their 4 top half years: Lambert, Shaw, Lallana, Lovren, Clyne, Schneiderlein, Sadio Mane, Wanyama, Pelle, Jose Fonte, Jay Rodriguez and -the real killer - Virgil Van Dijk.
