The FA laws of the game are freely available on the internet. You need to look for penalty and direct free kick….all will then become clear. I also posted the relevant laws in an earlier post.

Still not clear though. Are we saying its down to the ref to decide if there was any malice in the tackle?

In all honesty if that had happened against Arsenal, no way is a penalty given

Yes it was a penalty. On a positive note it proves my point to Jnr that his 'it's not a foul if you've touched the ball' theory is wrong. I'll cherry pick the quotes on this thread to read to him in the morning.

Because you make the tackle to win the ball, Lamptey won the ball, he touched it first. If you can win the ball and it’s still a penalty, then you might as well give up on tackling, it’s a terrible decision, but the useless POGMOL will promote this waste of space.

It’s a penalty. Silly clumsy tackle from the wrong side with a dangled leg. Gets a touch on the ball initially, but stops Jesus getting the second ball.

Pedro has won almost identical penalties for us this season.

However, the rest of the officiating in the first half was suspect as hell. Offsides missed, simple free kicks to us missed. Very, very poor.
