Was Gus holding Barnes back or was Barnes holding Gus back and what actually happened

When you compare Gus to Mullery's rants I know who I much prefer.

I actually like it that Barnes and Gus care so much. Unfortunately it will inevitably work against us at some stage. Barnes needs to reign in his short fuse though, he'd hardly been on the pitch two minutes before he wanted a fight.

It is great to see someone with that much passion, but like others have said, I worry that it will work against him at some point. I'm pretty certain that the other clubs have noticed this and are deliberately antagonising him recently too as it seems to be him retaliating all the time recently as opposed to starting any aggro himself.

Barnes seems such a quiet lad usually, he changes when he's got his game face on!

I think he just cares so much about doing well and gets frustrated when things go against him. Often he's angry at himself. He probably knows he's got a limited number of games to prove that he's good enough for the Championship.

He's already got a three year deal has he not? And can't see him being offloaded so soon after signing him and being only 20.

Go to Uni with a lad who played with Ash when they were both at Paulton Rovers and said he had the worst temper of any player he has ever played with. Regularly getting into scuffles with players and having a go at his own team mates. Of course he also said he was miles ahead of anyone in terms of ability.

It seems that most teams are targeting Barnes and El-Abd, having said that though El-Abd seems to have really reigned in his temper but still keep his passion.

funny how everyone was slagging off murray last year for being petulant, but barnes gets away with it

Murray got sent off twice for his petulance. One for that silly slap against Bristol Rovers (a game which Barnes scored a scorcher) and one for that ludirous hand-ball.

Besides, there's a huge difference between passion and petulance. Murray has passion and has lost the petulance this season. Barnes has both but his petulance is a sign of his youth.

Personally, as Barnes hasn't been sent off yet and has scored 14 goals and 21 and is improving as a player all round, I think thats what gives his a bit of slack. There were still very real question marks over Murray's temperament last season, to the point where it seemed like he was going to get ris after the Bristol sending off. Thank God he didn't!
