That was actually just four days before, on the Tuesday night. So we lost consecutive home games - 4-0 to Walton and Hersham United and then 8-2 to Bristol Rovers. Cloughie can't have been a happy bunny.

It was Wednesday and also in the afternoon - couldn't use floodlights due to the 3 day week imposed by the Tories

Chris Kelly, after that game I think he signed for Millwall, was in the south stand with my dad when he scored the goal. I think they played in green that day, first time I had seen team wear green.

Dave Sargent (defence). A 27 year-old self-employed decorator born in Eastbourne. Played for Eastbourne Utd, Hastings Utd, Crawley Town and in South Africa for two years before going to Walton and Hersham. Has also been on Albion’s books. Played for Sussex at junior and senior level, and in two South v North trials.

I'd guess quite a few people on here have a link to "Sarge" - as far as I know he still lives in Eastbourne and has continued to play and coach football locally - including Albion juniors (until recently but he has probably fallen foul of Barber's new broom by now...). I played vets football with him and he could still "ping" a lovely crossfield ball when in his 60s...
