Borrowed the CD a few years back and really enjoyed it. I think ive still got the tape of the 1930's war of the world hoax from an american radio station.

The 2005 film is so so poor when you compare it to the the other forms of the story!

Good point.

PS Re your avatar, I used to love Peter Davison as the Doctor when I was a kid:lol:

My wife got me tickets for this last Christmas! Can't believe I'm being made to wait almost a year. Seen the show on DVD and it looks very impressive, but then I'm a bit of a War of the Worlds geek.

We went tonight and had a great evening (having just got back in)
The special effects are pretty good although the hologram of Richard Burton was slightly comical. His voice from the original soundtrack was spot on. Although Phil Lynott and David Essex weren't in it, the actors/singers were talented enough.

Me and Sully went last night and I had been a bit sceptical about it. I thought it might be a bit or a lot geeky. In fact it was great, I was really surprised. The effects were good although Richard Burton did look more like a character from the Thunder Birds.

I wanted to go again when it was finished.
Thank you Sully.

Superwife and I are going tonight, I'm inclined not to think it is my cup of tea, but SW has always loved it. Looking forward to seeing a good stage show though.

Well,it was great, loved the concept, the music was superb, and a great video presentation. The "cast" were great, Justin Hayward has a very distinctive voice. Sadly the female voice couldn't compete with the orchestra but that was my only complaint.

Over 35 violins and violas, several Cellos and a couple of double bass, and an excellent rock band made a great noise.

Highly reccomended if they do it again next year.

What were the chances of anything coming from Mars like, Phil? I suppose if they didn't, it would make for a pretty anticlimactic show...

And still....they come!

Oh, you know, it was pretty much a facsimilie of the album. So yes, all the songs, in the right order, and actor/singers playing the parts of the Parson, his Wife, etc. Also had a giant "Tripod" thingy which moved and lit up and shit (well not literally of course). And the Richard Burton narration was facilitated by a CGI animation on a screen to the side of the stage. It was all very professional, the sound was pretty good, and the quality of the musicians was spot on.

Wasn't it Bart Simpson who said that all musicals are gay, they always have been and they always will be? Can't help thinking he had a point.

Ha ha, I am generally with you, I love Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, The King and I, and I didn't mind WOTW.

But I hate every other musical, those I have been forced to see, and all the rest. Can't say whether they are gay, or if indeed that actually means anything, but I really hate them all.

Saw it in Glasgow a couple of weeks ago, and yes the songs are good and the effects impressive, just felt some of he "songs" dragged out a few minutes too long and bored me in places, and like said befoer some of the singing couldn't compete with the orchestra/band.

Glad I've seen it though - but won't rush to see it again.....
