It appears that the lack of attendees for today's match was the final straw for the Walsall Board. That Groundsman did him up like a kipper! Poor ol' Jimmy..

CLUB STATEMENT
Posted on: Sat 10 Jan 2009

THE WALSALL FC Board of Directors have today issued the following statement:

"After careful consideration, the Board has taken the decision to terminate the employment of Jimmy Mullen as First-Team Manager, with immediate effect.

"The decision has been taken as a result of a sequence of disappointing results, particularly at home games, which has been damaging to attendances.

"The Board wish to express their appreciation for the efforts of Jimmy Mullen last season, when his arrival as assistant to Richard Money was an important factor in improving the playing fortunes of the team.

"This is not the outcome we desired, but feel that, with the season reaching the halfway stage, it was necessary to take this decision in the best interests of the club.

"The Board would like to thank Jimmy for his efforts, and wish him every success for the future."

That's a bit weird. Their board had obviously pre-prepared that statement. Would they have used it if they'd stuck half a dozen goals past us today - or would they have quietly tucked it away for next time? ???

That was precisely what I was thinking Mr H (but was too lazy to post it). I bet they thought the big freeze was wotsit from Heaven! Evidently nice people & a credit to their splendid Football Club. I hear Mourinho fancies another bash at back in Blighty.

When I was a kid I always thought Walsall was in Poland and wondered why they played in the English football league.

Blimey, that is a shocker...managers don't usually get sacked until after their team has played us...they can't have fancied their chances much.
