Yes, but he didn't have time to react. Whing was, it seems to me, expecting Virgo to clear the ball, as was, I'm sure, Kuipers. So by the time Kuipers had realised the ball had gone over Virgo's head, and had a chance to let Whing know he had time, whing had already failed to react to the ball surprising him and it was heading back into the goal.
I'm also not sure Kuipers had the best view to advise Whing, Kuipers had Virgo and the walsall player infront of him and was probably trying to keep an eye on the ball.
The problem wasn't that whing rushed his header, it's that he didn't expect the ball to come through to him and when it did he didn't have time to get his body ready or direct the ball in any way before the ball had actually hit him.
