Ya would have thought they would have learnt from the world cup about dropping players on there head, how that lad just got a yellow is beyond me it was totally off the ball, he lift the Ireland player up and dunked him straight on his head. Disgusting hope its looked into and he gets a long long ban could have broke the guys neck ffs:nono:

That was worse than Warburtons in the WC should have been a red. Hope Ireland go on to win this now.

Absolutely shocking refereeing, puts some of the stuff we have seen this season to shame.

How is it shocking reffing? He didn't see it (it was off the ball) and asked the touch judge. Shocking touch judging yes but can't blame the ref per se because he has to trust the touch judge's advice.

Was talking about the performance in general, mostly the penalty + yellow that decided the game, especially in light of the earlier incident.

Incidentally, the pundits have all (including Johnathan Davies) said that Barnes was partly at fault for the non red card - the touch judge clearly explained what happened, he hears it, he has to give red.

I heard the punditry too. But the ref has to ask the TJ what the recommendation should be - he says yellow - he can't overrule because he hasn't seen it, he's only going on what he's being told.

Actually I thought Wayne Barnes had a very good game. As for the Ferris pen I can see why he gave it...

I think this Welsh team is seriously good. Winning away in Ireland is no mean feat and they've now got 3 home games out of remaining 4.

That last game v France could be a Grand Slam decider for both teams.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember at the time the linesman said "he lifted him & then put him down" I think the rules state, if you lift someone it is then your responsibility to put them down safely. Could be wrong if I misheard mind - definitely the linesman should have been stronger though & said straight red - tough to blame ref, although he seemed to take an age to set the scrums - both sides struggled at the start by going in early.

Wales do look a good side now, the backs are huge!! get a few back from injury (Jenkins, Wyn Jones, Lydiate) will be very tough to beat. Great game of rugby mind, really enjoyable.

Maybe, just maybe if you'd ever played the game you would have a clue.

But it was a penalty and yellow card at the end, just because it's not as bad as the other doesn't mean it's not a card

I have to say the Ireland/Wales game was a fantastic spectacle. Ireland's forwards were dominant at the scrum and line outs and very good in open play. I did, however think they got a bit careless at the breakdown at times. Wales' backs were amazing in open play - throwing the ball around for fun. From yesterday's game, the Ireland front eight and the Wales backs made a very strong case to be selected for the Lions tour next summer.

I was expecting this 6 nations to be a bit drab, but our Celtic cousins are certainly playing some good rugby.

I thought the ref did pretty well - can't be blamed for the Davies card where the lino made a very odd call that it was just a yellow. I'm not sure the Kearney one was worthy of a yellow card, but was definitely a penalty; the card was incidental to the end result. The ref was quite lenient on letting tackled players hold on to the ball, but at least he was the same for both sides. Any borderline decisions were pretty even - a few people have mentioned a couple of Wales players playing the ball on the floor but equally I thought Ireland were very physical, and could have been pinged for a couple of the Garryowen chases - at least once they took the man in the air and on about 3 occasions they took him instantaneously as he hit the deck, so tight that it was difficult to tell which came first, the landing or the hit.

Wales played very well, especially given the injuries. I think this game put the England-Scotland game on Saturday in perspective.

I was actually quite impressed with England on Saturday. for a side that is in transition, I thought the pack looked strong, teh backs were a bit static at times, but they were obviously working to orders and the defence looked very good.

Glad to see Hodgson back as I think, although not as strong as Wilkinson in the tackle, he is certainly a better positional kicker.

Wales did look strong and the Irish were a very poor at the breakdown and spend a lot of the game whinging to the ref. France looked very powerful and mobile, which is what you expect and the Italians ran the ball well, but were over ran in midfield.

Good start to the 6 nations.
