The Large One
Who's Next?
BBC South Sports Personality of the Year 2006
Tell us who you think has made an outstanding contribution to sport here in the South - and you could win tickets to the BBC South Sports Awards gala ceremony.
The BBC South Sports Awards take place each December, recognising the achievements of our sporting teams and individuals. The highlight of the night is the announcement of the winner for the BBC South Sports Personality of the Year. The award is voted for by viewers of South Today as well as Local Radio Listeners and Where I Live Website users.
Last year's winner was Bournemouth's Darren Kenny - he won two gold medals in the Athens Paralympics and four golds at the Manchester Paralympic World Cup. Other past recipients have included show jumper Pippa Funnell, Poole Pirates' manager Neil Middleditch, swimmer Karen Legg and record-breaking yachtswoman, Dame Ellen MacArthur.
2006 has been another amazing year for sport in the South - so there are plenty of potential winners to choose from. In football, it's been an outstanding year for Reading FC, while Pompey staged a remarkable Premiership survival campaign. Our athletes were in action at the Commonwealth Games and in the world of sailing, Dee Caffari made it around the world against the prevailing winds and currents - or your nomination may go to someone from another sport entirely.
Nominations close at 1200 GMT on Friday November 24th. The top three nominations will then go 'head-to-head' in a phone vote. The winner will be announced at the gala awards evening at the DeVere Grand Harbour Hotel in Southampton on Sunday 3rd December.
Everyone who makes a nomination will be entered into a draw to win an invitation, with a guest, to the awards ceremony and dinner.
Send your nomination by post or by email to: BBC South Sports Personality, Broadcasting House, Southampton, SO14 7PU. One vote per household, which must include your name, address and contact details.
