Just far enough away from LDC
The first available flights from HK to europe are now over a week away. The next few days until wednesday are cancelled and after that they are full with those who booked before this and those who are down route and need to be have their journey completed. There is a flight to Rome that leaves every two days and is booked solid for the next 10 days. All other european flights are via franfkfurt, paris, amsterdam or london.

So I am now booked to go to JFK on tuesday and have a ticket from boston to LHR on wednesday night. Once at JFK will be able to assess if that is likely to go and if not then look at making it to mainland europe from washington, jfk, newark or boston.

I bet Michael Palin is laughing in his bed tonight - ah and if I get to meet any of those heathrow residents who have been celebrating this event then I'll gladly 'have a discussion' with them. Unless they are over 80 and lived there before the airport was built then they can go swivel

Have you had to purchase the flights yourself or has your airline offered you options? My sister in law is in India and has managed to book a flight to Madrid for Friday, not sure whether to try the same...

Thanks for advice re Doha, we won't go there until we know we can leave!

if airlines are saying the earliest you can get booked is xyz date, it doesnt mean thats the earliest you will fly. most have just closed out bookings as the rebooking procedure will be a nightmare, and based on a number of factors. in reality when people will go will depend on their class of travel, original date and the fare paid.

what i would do is get a frequent flyer card for the airline you are on and put it in your booking. that might help.

i was told i could not come back from india until 27th earliest for re-booking, but that is absolute cobblers. what they will do is just chance it with some people and hope some mugs are silly enough to just accept it. it will help clear the decks for them.

anyway i f***ed off out of india yesterday because it is the single worst country in the world to be in in some sort of drama. if i am going to be stranded it will be somewhere where doing poos in the street is not seen as an acceptable leisure activity.

Some bright spark from a ferry company forced a man to buy a bicycle to board their boat as they had run out of foot passenger tickets and only had cyclist left. So he went to a second hand shop and bought the owners bike to get back for his wife's birthday.

A couple of friends were stuck in India, but have managed to relocate to Dubai. Not a good start to the school term, being teachers!

they were not a couple of young hippyish type birds who got a f***ing auto rickshaw all the way bombay airport from nariman point on sunday were they. they had teachers written all over them. i was pissing myself at them stuck in the traffic getting hassled by a million deformed people just to save 5 quid.

then saw them on a f***ing flight to dubai!

My daughter is stuck in Dubai and not at school where she should be.

They couldn't give her some tuition, could they?

I did a poo on the beach at Cuckmere Haven once, a dog came along and scoffed it, followed by its owner, who fortunately (little old lady as she was) didn't see the act.

Yesterday at Tidemills near Newhaven the canine population got its own back, a dog scoffed a hunk of chocolate out of my rucksack.:tantrum:

How long before the airlines say sod it and start flying anyway? Seem to be making strong noises towards that sort of thing

Would YOU get on one of the airlines that was saying "sod it" ?

Think I'd take my chances with a ferry in a few days.
