We often play with 1 striker, we have 3 great ones, may sign an even better one, Agdestein would challenge Vokes as 4th choice, why sign a borderline champ player to not even bench warm just so we can lob some long balls forward occasionally if he ever gets on pitch (last season no Hoskins plus Agdestein wasn't AS ready when Vokes was here)

Why even entertain thoughts of signing him? Did no-one notice we don't play balls up to/into a target man? We play the ball about in midfield, and try to work openings in and around the box, and down the wings, with low, flat delivery mainly? Too much Harveys before games it would seem, for some ???

Disagree with that completely. I saw quite a few balls played to the front man with his back to goal. Vokes was better than CMS at holding onto it under pressure, and Murray was very good in League 1 at doing the same. When a team plays one up-front, that forward must be able to hold the ball up with his back to goal - not necessarily a target man, but needs a good first touch.

I'm excited by the McCormack rumour for that reason. He's strong with a good touch, and scores goals. I don't see the fascination on here with having a tall striker - we just need someone with a good first touch

How does this work?

The board is discussing the merits of signing a player who Gus DID ACTUALLY SIGN last season, on loan, and you think people must be drunk to think we'd even consider having him back?

Not sure about a forward needing to be good with his back to goal, to hold up the ball tbh. CMS has trouble with it, but looks TOTALLY different when facing, and running at the goal, and is much more menacing ??? I still reckon we try to get the ball into the six yard box, from through balls and from the by-line, in a more direct approach, negating the need for a back-to-goal forward...

The way we play means we NEED a player who can play back to goal - that's why CMS didn't look like the man for the job. We're not going to be a direct team, which means all eleven players need to be comfortable with the ball at close quarters... again, that's why CMS didn't seem to fit in for the large part.

Not quite, but you're in the right ball-park...

I was replying to a thread titled, 'Vokes?', which I took to mean would we re-sign him...

I was just arguing that our style of play, when he was playing for us, didn't suit him...

He's a tall, 'target-man' type player, and we didn't seem to play too many balls up to his head, and a few people on this thread seem to think he could do a job, based on last season's performances, making me think they might have been a bit tipsy while watching him ???

I was just pointing out that all our strikers had poor service most of last season due to negative tactics.I feel that with great service and better attacking football vokes would be a good player to have and he has great potential at 22,he's been pulled from pillow to post and needs a fresh start.

I bet whoever signs him they will see him score a fair few next season, just got that feeling.

If the asking price was bartered down to £200k and we pay him a lowish wage , yes.

Yes i would take him, keep Hoskins and get that midfielder we need. He will not give us 20 goals .CMS must achieve that i hope !!!!! And he does offer something different to what we have.

Definately not, just not up to it, especially if we are going to push for the play-offs
