Visa and the states

You will be allowed to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Programme, providing you will not attempt to seek work or gain access to public funds.

You will not be charged anything for entry. Don't know where this $6 thing comes from.

You will need a machine-readable passport and will have your fingerprints and digital photograph taken.

If you have a conviction, you may have troubles. On the plane you will fill out a form with regards to this.

That is all :)

I've entered the US by car a few times and they have charged me $6 each time for the visa waiver. Maybe if you are flying it is built into the ticket prices/admin fees or something.

Why would any one want to send you away on business? Oh Yeah, so you are as far away as possible!

Off to NYC soon..............

Oh goody ... Dwayne to san Jose which is a s**T hole as is most of silicon valley and you're off to NYC. I didn't realise the City Zoo needed anymore exhibits. I would have thought you'd both be better of in Banjo country counting you're extra fingers and thumbs.
Anyway ...... Enjoy.

BTW Dwayne, be careful, San Jose isn't the nicest of places .. a bit like Croydon with sunshine

Whatever you do, don't suggest that this is a "business" trip or that you will be working while in the US, even if the work is temporary.

H - Temporary Work Visa
If you are going to the United States with the intention of working there temporarily in specific prearranged employment, you require a classification H visa. The employment must be approved in advance by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the United States on the basis of a petition, form I-129H filed by the United States employer.

H-1B visa (specialty occupation) is required by an employee who is coming to the United States to perform services in a prearranged professional job. To qualify, the alien requires a bachelor’s or higher degree (or equivalent) in the specific specialty for which employment authorization is being sought. It is the responsibility of the USCIS to determine whether the employment constitutes a specialty occupation and whether the alien is qualified to perform the services. Before filing the petition, form I-129H, with the USCIS Service Center having jurisdiction over the area where the employment will take place, the employer is required file a labor condition application with the Department of Labor concerning the terms and conditions of the contract of employment.

If you have a conviction for fraud or drugs then you definately won't get in. So don't even bother buying a ticket. Any other convictions, and you have to contact the US Embassy for a visa. If you're conviction free, you can just fill out the visa waiver form they hand out on the plane.

Across the pond
Why would anyone from Flatbush New York need a visa?
Dick Van Dyke didn't need a visa. And he was a chimney sweep.
