this may have been posted during the time but was flicking through an old copy of zoo at work today and it had a feature on how much footballers at different levels earned. the championship offering was from the then brighton player adam virgo. he was on 75k but the average champ wage is around 200k. i have to say i was amazed at this. couldn't believe there was still so much money around even in the second tier of english football. i shudder to think of the aggregate earnings in this industry.

Find that hard to believe, especially as he drove a ford focus, now I'm sure not too many people on that sort of money drive fords!!

Sounds about right to me £1,500 a week for one of our better players at the time.

Good work if you can get it.

It was probably cos his car insurance would have been double the value of anything more 'flash' than a Ford, and I can guarentee that even on a Focus it would have been horrendos!!

I bet that is because as soon as you say Footballer as an job you premium goes up about 100%

Yep. I dont have Tank as a named driver on my car cos they wanted an extra £1000 for the pleasure and my insurance is under 500 quid!

Maybe in the long term, his contract expires at the end of this season. He played several games in the Prem and he's played some internationals I believe, so he's definitely known to clubs. I know Alan Pardew was interested in this player when he was manager of Reading, so he's rated.

I reckon for the moment that his level is probably the champiuonship, but I know he only lfet his club because he was offered more elsewhere, and if he plays well he could reach those heights again.
