Surely it's f***ing obvious that if nobody were ever punished for making an incorrect appeal, which ours was, then us and everybody else would appeal everything.
Indeed, but the problem is more and more people are getting red cards. With yellow cards for over elaborate or inciteful celebrations, dissent (which itself is far too frequent), and so on the yellows add up and become reds.
And more and more people are feeling hard done by because they are too stupid to follow rules that have been in place for the whole season.
Because there are more red cards, and more feelings of injustice/being hard done by, there would be a complementary increase in appeals, the FA had to do what they could to keep them down, or else they'd be inundated with appeals and never be able to sort through them all.
