I think Poyet knows we need a new centre-back so someone had to go. Elphick & Tunni are under contract, he rates El-Abd, & Virgo was out of contract & allegedly expensive. No-brainer really.

Agree. I expect us to get a top quality(for this level...) centre back in as his replacement.

And, as someone else said a lot of the other players who are out of contract must now be getting pretty worried. Of the currently contracted players I reckon only the following will still be with us:

Brezovan
El Abd
Tunnicliffe
Elphick
Calderon
(McNulty-possibly)
Navaro
Dicker
Crofts
Bennet
Murray

I reckon he'll also attempt to properly sign Painter, Barnes, Lua Lua and Hendrie. Leaving us needing a new G.K, a C.B, cover for R.B, a C.M two wingers and two strikers.

Thanks Virgs, good servant but good to see a strong non sentimental manager at the helm ... Here's to 2010/11 and promotion!

At Leeds Virgo was sent off after a dreadful throw out by Brezovan. His heading ability was missed and with ElAbd in the middle we ended up conceding from a long cross.

Virgo was sent off at leeds after needlessly and dangerously lunging in at a player who was no immediate threat to the goal, and was coming towards him anyway. Not because of Brezovan's lousy throw (and I'm not denying it was a lousy throw, just that it wasn't the cause of the red card, Virgo's rash and unnecessary lunge was the cause of the red card).

I think he is a solid back up to a team that wants to get promoted and stay up in the championship, has a passion for the club so will put his body in to make some impressive blocks at times, but he's been in and out of the team and hasn't really been able to settle in since Poyet arrived. I would have liked to have kept him, but probably won't lose sleep over him going. I hope he is able to find a decent side to join, though.

You'd have thought Poyet would have given him the benefit of the doubt, wouldn't you.

:lolol:

I'd have been a damned-sight more surprised if he'd been retained, quite honestly. Those three lil' words never go back immediately spring to my mind.

Best of luck to the guy though. I'm sure he'll continue to make a decent living outta the game in pastures a-fresh (albeit prob's after a hefty wage cut).

Yessireeebob - & his ridiculous sending off at Brizzle Rovers was another example of why he'd become far too much of a liability imo.

indeed - the mind is just a second or so quicker than the body hence too often late in the tackle.

Plus never quite mastered the knack of passing to feet.

But still much better than to be rated "not worthy of being a pro footballer" as some on here have.......that is way too harsh

Virgo was nothign like Cox off the field. He handled himself like a professional.

Shame to see him go as he is one of the better centre-backs here.

You left out that goal scoring sensation Holroyd
