This has probably been mentioned before but does anyone think the rumours around us bidding 2 or 3 million for players has anything to do with the financial fair play rules coming in next year? Is TB injecting some money now while he still can? All these big bids seem to have come out of the blue a bit..

Yes, very good point. Makes me think we will persist with this bid, particularly if the player is interested in coming. Also likely we will see other decent targets too, like someone else has said, the quality we are going for seems to be of a standard that could play in the Premier League, not just make it there.

Looks like TB wants to be in the prem sooner rather than later.

Newcastle just bid 5 million euros on twitter

Clever of them, they need a centre back and they seem intent on signing young players they can sell for a profit. If Capuccino is leaving for Argentina, then they'll be needing a commanding centre back but even if he isn't, they could do with someone proper to partner him. Mike Williamson is fairly dire, and Steven Taylor is injury prone and not all that good.

Maybe a silly question - but how do transfer fees get translated into the club accounts, e.g. in terms of FFP and profit/loss? If we paid (say) £2.5m for Ulloa, on a 4.5 year contract does he now count as an 'asset' on the books? And if so, valued at what? And when he scores 30+ goals in the coming year and still has 3.5 years on his contract - and we are getting , and rejecting, offers of £8million...did we just make a nice big profit (in FFP terms)? Interesting business this football.
