Lots of tweets in last few minutes from Dutch football journalist saying stuff along the lines of:

Agent says he thinks Brighton will come back with a higher bid. He is Poyet's number one target. If a deal is to be done, it will be done quickly. Other teams interested but they will look to sign VVD in the summer, not now...

Bizarre Transfer Speculation - Virgil van Dijk

It doesn't make sense that they'll sell to us now- they have no time to strengthen and they would be losing their best player potentially dooming them to relegation. They may also have more Clubs and a bidding war in the Summer particularly if he continues to play well an they stay up.

No sensible Chairman would sell him unless its for ridiculous money.

Pork pie land.
agreed it really pisses me off that he bangs on about this - last week double spread in teh standard saying he wants to manage arsenal - he should keep his mouth shut.

This! He is under contract, and should keep his f***ing mouth shut about other teams.

Players join us to play for him. It must make a difference if they think he will be off at any time.

I think it's "can't wait to rip a new arsehole to the south london club crystal palace" with a last minute 30 yarder.

Palace don't nee him - they have 'The best starting 11 in The Championship', or so I've read somewhere.

Right here, right now
(AF} Hans Nijland comes today in the newspaper of the North to speak about mail traffic that yesterday between Brighton and FC Groningen has been. Nijland: "They asked us a sum called in respect of which we Virgil van Dijk would like to sell. We have an email sent back where we indicate no amount shall call and that it makes no sense a new bid to do. We want this transfer do business. "
But what if no FC Groningen Brighton but the case is very different approach and earlier bids (The Argus calls now a sum of approximately £ 2 million (€ 2.3 million) as the height of the second bid) significantly increases . Can the club itself than the recently published figures remembered afford the leg in this case too stiff to keep? We think not. FC Groningen has really lucrative annual transfers needed for the shop running and see time and again for devilish dilemmas and almost impossible to make tradeoffs between sporting and financial consequences. We're stabbing our hand therefore determined not in the fire that Virgil coming Saturday in the pre-spirited away match against AZ shall field.
In the past it was often the case that an outgoing transfer has been "arrested" because FC Groningen rushed busy with the contracting of the replacement. Think Suarez / Mountain, Matavz / Texeira, Tadic / Kostic. This also appears in this case a realistic scenario. Perhaps there are currently discussions underway on two fronts.
Will undoubtedly be continued today.

Develish dilemmas causing them to stab their hand apparently! And their legs are too stiff!!

I love the idea of a 'pre-spirited away match'

Transfer Van Dijk further away than ever. Groningen is resolutely. Brighton will now look at other options ...
