Manager Gus Poyet refused to rule out the possibility after The Argus revealed on Friday the Seagulls had an undisclosed bid rejected by Groningen for their Dutch under-21 international centre-half.

Everton, Newcastle and Sunderland have all been linked with the 6ft 4ins van Dijk.

Poyet, quizzed by The Argus about the possibility of a fresh bid, said: “I don’t know. We will think about it. There are too many rumours, too many things, we'll see.”

Why not keep the talent we have? Not sure if my figures are accurate, but hope you get the gist of my question.

We DIDN'T sell Hall, He left after refusing a contract.

We didn't sell - Hall wouldn't sign a contract and we came to an agreement on compensation. I'm not sure why this question keeps being asked... it was very common knowledge

Agree, I think timing of bids and when to go back etc are all Tony.

It will be interesting to see how GG and AEA respond to more competition for places. Since Hall left and Dunk's been out they've been nailed on starters, and I think there's some truth in the argument that our '2nd Best Defensive Record' tag is partly due to the inclusion of 2/3 defensive midfielders plus workhorse Barnes.

I still reckon GG and AEA are up to Championship play-off standard anyway, but if Gus chose to free up our style of play and go more attacking I feel we'd probably end up 7 or 8th best defence in the division.
