Shows what a bad mistake the Krul loan was as clearly happy to go on loan but wasn't prepared to go perm with such short notice.

...... and we would have ended up with no third goalkeeper

This is where shutting the window early doesn't work.

Janssen turned down Stoke, West Brom and us. All are better options than where he has ended up. As the PL is now a closed shop it leaves big teams in other leagues in a much better negotiating position.

Crikey!
Things must be bad at the Albion if he'd rather go to a festering shite hole like Turkey than come here.

He probably wouldn't 'rather'.

But since rejecting us on a permanent, he's been left out of Spurs champions league squad and told he won't be playing for their first team.

He's the first choice striker for the Dutch National Team, and needs to be playing football. They are in the Europa League and will be top 3/4 so it's not quite the same as joining a struggling side on a permanent basis.

Anyone know why the footballing authorities decided to have the window closing at the same time as an international break, when players like Janssen, who could be subject to a move were not even in the country to discuss a possible move or take a medical. Seems absolutely crazy to me.

Shows even more what a total f**k up Ryan was.

Should have bitten the bullet and signed Krul permanent on a 1 year deal - that's all he's got left at Newcastle anyway.

Instead we pissed about and had to waste our final loan on a decent goalkeeper as the other one is 4ft2, meaning we can't get another striking option in on loan.

Well thats embarrassing.....

Would rather go to Turkey then play for us in the premier league.

50K stadia for a well known team, playing for the league title in an attacking team. Or playing in a 30K stadium battling relegation with little service.

Perhaps having a week to weigh up his career options was preferable to 5 minutes, after an international game.

Partly agree but given the option of both he'd probably choose the same outcome.

I think #AZ Gull's post about the number of HGPs in our 25 man squad is more relevant than all the hand-wringing about whether or not we needed Krul as a 3rd. choice GK, and whether or not we've dodged a bullet with Janssen (I think we probably have, btw). Maybe the recruitment team had their heads screwed on better than some gave them credit for?

Pretty sure we could have coped with what we had. Why do we need as many goalkeepers as strikers?

Because it's an enormously specialist position and not one where you would want a crisis.

As a striker it's an absolute no brainer to go to Fenerbache instead of us/ a lower prem team.

He is a good player but all that get's thrown at him is his goal record at Spurs.

Go to a BIG club in Turkey, score some goals, and come back with a much better chance of getting a move with the same/increased wages.

If he has decided to join a team in the prem (be it us, West Brom or Stoke) who are highly unlikely to score 3's and 4's then it doesn't make much sense for him.

Robin Van Persie is also still at Fenerbache. Not a bad mentor.

Unbelievable! Just love the support for our players on here sometimes! Even a thread about a Spurs striker can end up a Ryan-bashing. Disgraceful support

I think Maty Ryan has been okay, but its been a shaky start, he will hopefully improve in confidence, but it is a hope he'll settle. Niki Mäenpää has made 1 league appearance is 2 seasons, Walton's had mainly L2 and L1 experience, it is hardly rock solid between the sticks is it? Having a keeper with Premier League experience seems to be a good move to be honest.

Always need a goalkeeper on the bench, in case one gets sent off. Leaves room for one to be injured.
