"What are his objectives?

The club say his first target is to return Villa to the Premier League.

After that, he intends to lead the club into the top six and bring European football back to Villa Park.

He also plans to make Villa, who were European champions in 1982, "the most famous football club in China with a huge fanbase".
- "Which will make me a shitload of money" he forgot to say.

This is nothing more than a speculative business investment, he invests a modest amount with the guarantee that he will make his money back and a bit extra if they get back into the PL with the added possibility of doing a Leicester and then unlocking his huge Chinese market for a massive return on his investment. Bollocks has he been a Villa fan for years, I bet he couldn't even find the place on a map or name a single player from their past.

Let's say you pay 60m for Villa and then another 30m on players to get them into the Prem.So that's 90m.On the other hand Man U and Arsenal would cost over 10/15 times that.

lets say you wanted to buy Man Utd. For £800m. And you had no money. But a lot of credit.
And you bought it entirely via loans.
And then charged the (expensive) loan interest back to Man Utd for the next 10 years.

You'd be The Glazers. The owners of Man Utd.

That's great business because last time I heard Man Utd were quoted as being worth over 1billion.

It's a bit like buying a house with a 100% interest only mortgage then selling it a few years down
the road with a healthy profit.

Yep. Great business. For the Glazers. Paid for by football fans with their season tickets, and 50-90 quid a month subscriptions to Sky Sports and BT Sports.
Meanwhile Man Utd are out of Champs League for the 2nd time in 3 years. But good luck on Saturday of course.

Imagine the disappointment if you ordered a number 11 and 18 thinking you were getting Kung Po chicken and chips, only to get home to find you had Kieran Richardson and Gaby Agbonlahor.

The fact that the Chinese bloke who has bought that club has already announced his budget leads me to conclude he hasn't got a scooby about football. "Look at us, we've got LOTS of money! Now then, lets go shopping. How much do you want for that journeyman of yours who has been in form for 6 weeks?"

I really don't think it is going to be very straightforward for Villa to come back up first time. The stats from this season starkly bring home just how awful they are. They won only 3 league games all season. They scored fewer goals than anyone else (27) by some margin (next lowest 34). They conceded more than anyone else (76) by some margin (next highest 67). If anything they got worse as the season progressed as they finished with 9 defeats and 1 draw in their last ten. They are a truly terrible side and if they stick with the current squad they are more likely to go down than up next year.

Improving the side isn't going to be easy either, even with new investment. They won't be able to offload many of their current underperforming big earners and they will have to stick two fingers up to the Championship financial fair play rules in order to bring anyone in. In fact they will lose so much money next season I suspect they will fall foul of FFP rules even if they don't sign a single player. He'll probably need £30M a season just to cover their operating losses. Be interesting to know what is happening to all that debt they accumulated under Lerner under the terms of the takeover.

Just because they are called Aston Villa and have a rich new owner doesn't guarantee them anything. Blackburn, Birmingham, Cardiff. Hasn't gone smoothly for them has it? Didn't Derby spend £20 last summer improving a side that was probably already better than Villa?

Man U made record profits this year I believe.Yes great business but not for the fans however most of these owners are in it for the money, they don't give a stuff about the fans, the club.Good luck to who?Me?I'm no Man U fan.

Announcing the transfer budget is to get the fans onside, which has to be their first priority.

I still feel that they will finish outside the top six, probably bottom eight, next season.

you know most really arent in it for the money, there's better ways to make money. most are in it for the prestige, marketing and soft power that comes with the clubs.

It's interesting reading some of the conflicted reports coming out today. There are claims that Tony Xia doesn't quite have the qualifications and background that he claims and that the Recon Group (which is privately owned) isn't quite as successful as it appears - the FT reports that one its subsidiaries (its largest in fact) made a $78m loss last year.

The FT also notes that it hasn't published any annual accounts or audited financial statements which should raise a few alarms with Villa fans.

I haven't got time to dig around in this - sounds like a job for El Presidente - but I wonder if everything's as it seems with this
