A big lesson to all of us to give kids some time to develop.
Wasnt anything to do with the club not giving him time to develop. When he left he was vocal to the club about wanting first team football, which was something the club couldn’t promise him as at that stage he’d done nothing on his loans to prove he could cut it. It was then a case of either sending him out on more loans or selling him, and from what I remember it was the player that pushed for the sale so he could find a more permanent home with first team football. The club did him a favour by agreeing to this. Could have easily kept him in the youth/loans set up but made him unhappy in doing so. Nobody could have predicted at that point how well he’d then do at Coventry etc…

And he was a Locardia level striker for quite some time.

This is all true but, and this is perhaps what @Zeberdi meant, it is a lesson in patience for some fans.

I'm sure there was another player who we either had and got rid of, or who we almost signed but never, where every time he bagged afterwards someone would bounce his NSC thread... who am I thinking of? Genuinely can't remember.

Good luck to him.

I actually believe he will turn into a great striker (Premier League level) because he got the right attitude and the right attributes, but maybe moved abroad a bit too early and will be considered a late bloomer once he reaches his potential.
Should have put money on it...

Fantastic player. Will be class in a bigger league as well.

Ashley Barnes?

Certainly wasn't 'Big Jurgs' Locardia.

I remember thinking we'd rue the loss of Leo Ostigard more than Gyokeres. Both done well since leaving, but I was clearly wrong about that.

I also remember, years and years ago, thinking we'd rue the loss of Michael Standing more than Gareth Barry.

What I'm saying is, you should all be asking me to compare two of our players and then betting against whatever I say. You'll all get rich.

Let they that are without sin cast the first ..... etc
