……..ok

The same was reported when Man United were closing in on signing him before multiple ownership concerns.
No comparison. The sell-on clauses there (such as they were/might have been and whatever other South American multi-ownership chicanery and shennanigans) enabled us to get him cheaper because United pulled out.
The only factors in a Caicedo deal now are what a club will pay, and what we will accept, plus whether Caicedo wants to go there or not.

Every comparison in that both Coventry and Brighton will consider the sell on clauses that both have to pay when deciding whether to accept an offer or not

A new Premier League club is reported to be in the hunt for Gyökeres...

Words that were to the liking of the 25-year-old Swede, who, despite having other offers in his portfolio (Everton and Brighton are still in the race), at this moment even prefers Sporting. And if the forward is close to being convinced, attention is now focused on negotiating with Coventry, which does not lower the bar: €20 million. A number that does not scare the lions who, you know THE BALL, do not rule out the possibility of going a little further...

Who would we have to pay the sell-on fee too? For that reason alone, I'm probably out!

Selling for £1m and buying back for £20m a few years later might undo a lot of the good reputation in the transfer market we've built up :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
That, my friend, is why it unanimously wins the ‘most BS transfer story or the window’ award.

A healthy reminder that the vast majority or rumours we see about potential Albion signings are utter crap.

Like everybdy else, I've no idea whether we hve a sell-on clause or not - let alone how much it might be! But whatever it us (if it is!) I don't see how it makes any difference to Big Viktor's sale value, or Coventry's asking price.

You don’t see how a club having to give a percentage of the transfer fee to somebody else might make them ask for more money?

That’s certainly an opinion.

They can ask, but they won't get it. Expecting a buying club to pay over the odds to cover sell on promises you have made is, I believe, referred to as 'The Zaha Fallacy'.

Coventry will try to get the highest fee they can squeeze out of the purchaser, whether there's a sell-on fee or not - obviously. Ridiculous to think they'd do anything else!

But it may well affect their thinking when deciding to accept a bid or not; the "you would have to be an idiot to say no" ceiling would be higher.

For arguments sake, say we had a 50% sell on clause for Cucu last year. Suddenly a bid of £30m would mean us not quite breaking even with our share of £15m, so definitely not worth while and the final £60m+ bid would only have given us £30m which (as we know) was not considered worth while either.

So, no you can't just ask other teams to give you more to cover a sell on fee, but it does raise the value of the player to the owning club, meaning the minimum acceptable bid is raised.

Possibly. My post was just a cheap jibe at Palace.

A sell on is typically on the revenue over the original fee. So if Cucurella was sold for £30m, we get nothing.

Is this the first time ever we’ve received a decent sell on fee for anyone?
