I was thinking more of 3 central midfielders and 1 wide man rather than as we play now with 2 and 2 wide men plus a No 10. Like at the moment due to injuries etc Bissouma, Kayal, Bernardo or Bruno and then either Izquierdo or Knockhaert out wide. Bernado/Bruno being replaced by Stephens and or Propper when available,.

He is also impressive with his surging runs and would have added extra height & strength to midfield.

I think that could have worked but then nobody expected Bissouma to be brought on early and be so lack lustre and offer very little. I am still undecided about him.

It worked in 1979, when we put our best player (Lawrenson, a CB) into midfield to give us a fighting chance in the top flight. But that then. of course, involved letting a teenager play at CB (alongside an old war-horse we liberated from Blackpool reserves). Stupid bloody thing to do, wasn't it? - should have resulted in instant relegation. Today we know better than to let an U23 player into the first team until they are pushing 25, so yes, probably putting in someone out of position is what we'd do.

In an ideal world the way we are bringing Walton through the ranks is the right way to do things, but even he played for our first team before he went out on loan (if my memory serves me right).

If Propper and Gross aren't back from injury then I would definatley look at Sanders in training and tell him he is in contention and make me choose you over Bernardo.

Was there any positive news about Locadia? Do we know if he was injured.

BBC and Argus both reported that he had a virus, presumably temporary, and didn't travel for fear of it spreading. No jokes please.

Gross was due back in training at end of last week. Propper is due back today.
Assuming no setbacks then they will both be available for Saturday the 24th.
Kayal was not booked v Cardiff. So its more than likely that Hughton's midfield options, Stephens aside, will be more than they were for the last month or so. (Kayal, Gross, Propper, Bissouma). and his no.10 options (March, Gross). Ali J's injury is unclear although a minor hamstring indicates he'll be back for Leicester too so full set of them too.

Gross hasn't played though for nearly 9/10 weeks so Hughton might think he needs a run out in the u23s although they have no fixtures before Leicester aside from the Sussex Senior Cup rescheduled match v Lewes on Weds Nov 21st.

Propper hasn't played since the West Ham win at the beginning of October, over 6 weeks ago.

Mixed message? Dunk would be out of position but he did start as a midfielder and 4 years ago saved the season by playing pretty much CB to forward and scoring goals. He is one of the few players I would trust to play OOP and do a decent job. Max Sanders might be a better planned alternative.

That is not what I am saying. What I am saying is that if they are considered to be able to step in I would prefer to see them on the bench and given a few minutes before being thrown in at the deep end. Until that happens stick with experience even if to play in an unusual position.

Anders Dreyer is a wide midfield player, he doesn't play in the middle.

Anyone that saw Schelotto as an advanced wide midfielder away at Huddersfield last season will concede that a good player out of position is often much less effective than an average one in his natural position.

Not saying Schelotto is a good player as have always thought him bang average but he was so lost that day it was embarrassing.

I have never said otherwise but he is not a wide man akin to Iziquierdo who has been suggested there or Knockaert who has also been suggested to play more central ie where March is filling in. see the copied posts;
