For then perhaps? Would be League 2/BSP standard now.
Not too sure how you reach that conclusion. The Albion was a team of internationals and vast experience. Most of that team would walk into our current squad, I know times, styles and formations have changed over the years but to compare that match to League 2 / BSP is just daft.

Watching the highlights I thought we kept the ball well, yes there was some long (ish) ball down the middle but that was to Robinson's strenght and Wardy or Smith playing off him was a great front two.

Happy days.

Sorry but I just can't agree, and I do think people watch these games with rose tinted specs on. I watched the first 4 minutes and within that time I saw countless AWFUL first touches, poor technique, poor decision making, aimless hoofs, mis-timed tackles and more.

Speaking of the Goldstone Ground, when did we lose the large 'Tamplin's Ales - Brighton's Winning Beers' advertising?

Good memories (although I wasn't at that game); no idea where my British Caledonian shirt went! Isn't it great to watch a game with some 'manly' tackles without play acting or the screaming hordes descending upon the ref. Imagine if Coppell's tackle on Ward was against one of the current Man Ure crop of 'superstars'? Fergie would have a heart attack just before his head exploded and there would be 10 players surrounding the ref demanding a red card. Not all progress is good.

Does seem strange now that such a match would attract only 18k, but these were hard times.

Got injured at that game.....When we scored the North Stand just surged forward and I got caught between the surge and a safety barrier...ribs hurt for a few hours.

Like I said the game has changed, pitches are better the ball is lighter, players are fitter but I think the fact that both teams where packed with internationals speaks volumes for the side, style of play and the level we where at. Maybe watch the whole 19 minutes and not just 4, even the commentary mentions the Albions "good football".

I think we look at the current side through "Rose Tinted Glasses" Division One and the Championship while good is no where near the level we played in the late 70's / early 80's.
