So many doom mongers and conspiracy theorists, it's a wonder how some of you get out of bed in the morning without being struck down with some kind of conundrum that leaves you there for the rest of the day.

f*** me!!!

This.

I think far too many are being far too quick to look for hidden meanings where none exist.

Although I'm amivalent at moment, I don't take this as proof that he is going elsewhere as some have. This move might be to prevent that happening, rather than allowing it to happen. If he is under contract to us (as he is again now) we can decide not to accept any offers which come in.

I read this more as the club running out of patience and doing what I thought they sould probably have done in the first place-take up the option to which they both agreed.

So basically it's one of:

A) He's staying and the club have put out an odd statement.

B) It's not quite decided but looking likely. Club have to activate option before the contract expires, but the deal isn't quite done yet.

C) He might stay or he might go, and the club are activating it just to cover bases. If he goes we get money.

D) He's going, and the club are activating it to get a bit of cash.

If it's A or B that's GREAT, Vicente is here next year! If it's C or D, also great, just not quite as great hence the no caps. We get cash for him and, if you put any faith in player valuations and/or Tony and Gus's ability to get a good deal, we get a replacement who should be good.

A or B preferable, C or D not the end of the world. Would love to see him play for us again, but if he's off at least we get funding for someone new.

Don't think so - in that situation I think we'd be incredibly unlikely to do this. We always said we weren't going to force it on him, surely now at a time when it would mess up his family life we wouldn't decide to change our mind? I am firmly in the "other club" or "stubborn agent" camp.

Fair enough, its not forcing it on him at all, just covering ourselves financially.

While this is of course possible, we have now activated the clause. This means his contract expires 2013, rather than very soon. Even if someone else comes in, we, i.e. BHAFC are now in a better position. This is positive, even if he doesn't play again but I still see this as a step closer to him possibly playing for us again.

The thing is nobody knows what is truly going on and the clubs statement has added to that not ended it.

Maybe the club have done what they did, to prevent him from going to another English club like Reading without a fee, but they would let him go to Spain and agree to cancel his contract? if he decides that, at least whilst he is under contract we have some bargaining power and influence in the situation, if he wants to go to say Villareal or Elche or Levante, we could propose a swap and bag someone else?

We now have a hand of cards to play at the table rather than nothing

It boils down to this: If it was good news, the statement would have said he was back playing for us. As it is, either he is off to a Premiership club OR we are involved in delicate negotiations in an attempt to keep him.

Personally I will amazed if he plays for us again. f*** it.

All reasonable but it's not A). They know how to announce things properly. The real question is whether they should have announced this at all.

If we have decided to extended Vicente’s contract without his approval, we are NEVER going to get any another player to sign a similar clause. I think there are team who are out to sign him, that’s a given, but I would like to think he's happy here. What would his best mate Bruno think if he did suddenly go to Reading or Southampton?

Admittedly, the wording is strange and may need clearing up. Or maybe just a few words from Vicente himself.

You've all gone completely mad!

Vicente is going nowhere. We've just signed his mate and given him his extension.

Some Brighton fans are ridiculous!

Good tweet from Brian Owen:

"Does the announcement on Vicente change much? If he hasn't confirmed if he's going or staying, then why let his contract expire?"

Looking at it that way it doesn't change much - just Albion guarding against the possibility that he might decide not to stay.

Maybe I am being a bit naive, but why would the club send out a text to get us excited. Only then to tell us he is going. They would have been better of not telling us and just say he is not coming back. If he is not staying the full out now would be much worse then if they had not said anything.

If the club were forcing his hand and it could turn messy then I am certain they would have announced NOTHING to the fans at this stage.

The problem with that is that we'd said he was allowed to walk away. So something must have brought this on.
