So it's between us and Villarreal then............

"Vicente Rodriguez is on the agenda of the submarineThe Valencian has played in Brighton this season, set the First Division of England11:03R M. / A. H. Villarreal works fully in the preparation of the template of the next year, which will only challenge back to the top flight after the collapse of this last year, and is one of the names that have the yellow guiding on agenda of Vicente Rodríguez. The Valencian player moved to the British football, after his long period in Valencia, to join the ranks of Brighton Hove Albion, set in the South of England who currently plays in the First Division, equivalent to the second Division. The left-hander has been on the orders of Gustavo Poyet, technical that persuaded him to address his new adventure in English football. Of Benicalap was linked to the British institution for a season. A year where he has enjoyed minutes, although it has not been able to give its best version, with 17 appearances and three goals. At the age of 31, in the bosom of the Villarreal believe that the player can still offer a great version by the band left, with its quality and its overflow, now in the Liga Adelante. The footballer would not with bad eyes the option of returning to football Spanish, quite contrary, and also very close to home. Next to the closeness between Valencia y Vila-Real, there is also the new project that the submarine will face in the coming months, pending more details can end up convincing footballer, since the economic section should not be a problem."

Something gets lost in the translation tho............

Of course he is in contacts with two clubs, with Brighton, and with Hove, but I heard third club is trying to steal him in front of them,my sources are saying this third club is Albion.

Ok,now seriously,my club (Valencia) became so shit in last few years, that we are in contacts and are buying only 2nd league players in last couple of years. So beware,we might be interested for one of your players, including Vicente too.

That would not be as bad, returning to Valencia. It would still hurt (a lot). I absolutely love watching Vicente. I've never felt as excited watching football, well since I was a kid and we had a young player called Peter Ward. Vicente is imho the best player we have ever had. My season ticket money was worth it just to watch some of his performances for the club I love.

Agreed to an extent. He's obviously an amazing player, but I just felt like EVERYTHING had to go through him when he played and it became a bit predictable.

Agree with this but reckon the only reason was because we had no one else to pick it up and take on the oppo through the centre I was (am) hoping for another big signing that can play alongside or just behind that provides more than one outlet through the middle, then I think that will bring CMS right into the game too

Noooo. Losing Vicente AND Harley would be too much to take.

If he goes it wil be for family reasons and fair enough - Gus has appeared remarkably laid back about it but I bet he won't give him up without a fight

Whether he goes or stays we will have a stronger squad than last season - I can guarantee that without any inside sources.

Will we be "good enough"? 46 games will tell us that - bring it on!

I'm still at a loss as to why we don't just take up our option to have him for another year. We negotiated that last summer...

I thought we had an option on a second year. Why didn't we exercise that option and make it clear we wanted him to stay. What we have done is merely say it is up to him which doesn't, as far as I am concerned, send out a very positive message to him. Make it clear we want him here long before he starts talking to other clubs but we didn't.

I have a feeling that we're going to struggle next season. The possibility of players like Painter, Brezovan, Ankergren, Harley and Dicker possibly being at the club next season is very depressing. They were OK as squad players when we were making the transition from L1 side to Championship side but there is no way that any of them should be getting a look in next season imo. They are average League One players at best.

Back on topic, I'm sure some will feel that Vicente owes us for keeping faith in him despite his issues, whatever they may be, but he's been amazing for us and he's put himself in the shop window nicely, so the arrangement has worked out as planned for both parties, hence I don't think we can feel bitter about him moving on. Good luck to him wherever he ends up- it was an absolute pleasure seeing such a quality player wearing the stripes.

What? Of course he was told he was wanted.

The issue about the contract is a red herring; it has little meaning in this instance.

When you're Vicente, and the club in question is Brighton - you're not going to get the party with the lesser standing calling the shots.

Quite why people are even remotely surprised that he may well not come back, is beyond me.

there are good and bad points made on this thread and some negatvity which in the circumstances is justifed in my opinion. The season finished for Brighton about 8 weeks ago, thats a long time to loose just 4 players from an average squad and not make any improvements, thats fact, thats not being negative. I understand though there is time left, but theres not even decent rumours for us which feels you with any confidence.

If and a big IF we go into next season with say 8 of our squad from last season and i dont need to name them , we all know the names, and we only say sign two or three better players to suppliment the squad then I honestly feel its gonna be a struggle next season espcecially if Vicente leaves, we were lucky last year with some late late goals in games we did not deserve to get points from and we had times in the season when we were just awful, mainly away games. We might not be so lucky next season and I fancy the championship to be even stronger next season. We will have the added man at home with hopefully 25K cheering, but that might only buy us 3 or 4 points extra.

Hopefully the next few weeks will bring in some much needed good news for us all.

.

I'm not going to get involved in a debate over whether they are the players to take us forward, but to state that those four are AVERAGE League One players at BEST, is plainly horseshit, considering that they were all integral to the side that PISSED League One.

Why would you force a player to stay if he does NOT want to be there?

Have you not noticed that Gus manages players extremely well? In ALL his transfer dealings, he has left it up to the player to decide (Murray, Bennett, Cook etc).

Vicente knows we want him to stay. He knows what we can offer. Gus knows (as do we all) that he should be playing at a much higher level and will not stand in his way if that is what he decides to do. This is how it should be.
