[Albion] Verbruggen trying to "gee up" the North Stand

Anyone else find this weird (at best)?

2-0 down against our biggest rivals going down with a wimper, 3 minutes into first half stoppage time, ball out for a throw at midfield.

Tell me what fans in the world would be cranking up the atmosphere at that moment?

Yeah, there had been absolutely nothing to get excited about all half too, quite the opposite! Atmosphere started well, then for obvious reasons died. Started well second half too, but faded as our intensity faded and the game got away from us

Yep all very odd. Maybe give us something to cheer about first?

“Yay, we won a throw in” doesn’t really cut it

Yeah its getting tedious now. Players need to realise they are responsible in helping to generate an atmosphere. Ours were like a pissed up clown at a kids birthday party!

It might have worked out differently for Anderlecht. Don't think the "our player is trying to connect with the fans in the stand" is universally seen as a bad or silly thing to do that warrants "is he weird or sumthin'?" posts on a fan forum.

I'm sure he'll adapt and become a disinterested mercenary - who doesn't give a shit if you cheer or not - soon enough. Its the PL after all.

Our shit fanbase at the Amex is one of the key reasons we won't be able to keep hold of our best players.

These players want to play for fans who will be the 12th man, who will react to this kind of geeing up.

Our Amex fanbase is full of old farts, plastics, away fans and generally miserable fuckers. A bit like NSC really. It's a library when things are going badly.

We do need some kind of movement to help make the Amex electric in order to help our results. Things could be SO much better for this club if we had a supportive fanbase at the Amex.

I think the problem is that it doesn't come across as "connecting with the fans". It comes across as having a go.

This.

“We’re paid hundreds of thousands of pounds to be here, but we’re only going to try if you lot who’ve paid a lot of money to be here sound like you want us to!”

Atmosphere was good today until we went 2-0 down, then was good again in second half until we faded away.

Yes, it's not amazing, but one thing we've learned from being in the Prem is that most home atmospheres are shit - including places like Anfield and all the big London clubs.

I'm sorry but there's no fanbase in this country that are making loads of noise as the first half fizzles out 2-0 down.

I think if he'd done it at the half time whistle as he collected his stuff, a kind of "come on, we're still in this, get behind us second half", that would have gone down well.

It was just bizarre timing.

It's clearly a cry for help, to find an edge, I hate to say it but Palace would still get behind them if they were two nil down in a normal match, let alone a derby.

Yes, it comes across that way because you read it that way.

If he does it for Anderlecht, there's roaring and screaming and burning the stadium. Maybe he just didn't know it doesn't work like that everywhere?

Your first sentence is correct.

However I've been to lots of European football and I really don't think even the most commited ultra groups are lifting the roof in that situation.
