Any suggestions for (pref seafront or close but not essential) venue within 5 mins or so stroll from the Metropole to book for exclusive hire for a couple of hours (3pm-5pm) one mid-week afternoon in July, space for 100 people theatre style plus some spare space for networking. Could be a bar / restaurant on lower prom if big enough rather than one of the other hotels. I'm just not up to date with what is down there these days and no longer local. Thanks for any suggestions. Have previously used Wagner Hall but that is booked. DM fine if easier.

Assuming you have specific reasons for not using the Metropole, maybe Wagner Hall is an option. It is just off West Street by the entrance to the Churchill Square car park so only a few minutes walk from the Metropole - https://www.wagnerhallbrighton.co.uk/
