What fantastic quality we have in that position now. Youth and experience. We look sorted dare i say! After Bruno we struggled to feel that position with poor signings like Schelotto and Montoya.

Who starts i have no idea. If i had to guess i would opt for experience when playing the big 6.

Great conundrum for Potter and i'm sure he relishes it.

May be some rotation depending on shape and opposition. I thought Lamptey was notably useful defending against quick forwards looking to get in behind (eg Vardy) so you may see him in those types of games. However you'd perhaps be more likely to see Veltman against someone like Burnley who have less pace up front. We could of course see an injury or poor form in the centre-back area and see Veltman slot in there, with Lamptey right back. It'll possibly depend on whose fit/suits a particular game in midfield too. If it's a game that requires playing Stephens and Gross for example, we'd perhaps be more likely to use Lamptey for his pace.

I reckon both will play a similar amount in the first couple months. Not trying to avoid answer, just that seems most likely outcome to me. Neither seemed like they'd consistantly let us down when given the chance.

Over the course of the season it will be both. Horses for courses. Veltman will also provide cover for both CB and RB in cae of injury to others and Lamptey cover at winger / AM. Under Hughton we had two players for every position. Under Potter we have two positions for many players.

Well yeah, but let's face it we thought Montoya was a good signing initially. Let's wait until Veltman has a few competitive games under his belt before we comment.

For me, today's performance underlines why Lamptey needs to start every Prem match, either as RB, RWB or RM.

He is one of the few players - if not the only player - we have that instinctively looks to take his man on and has the pace to beat him.

That is not what you want from a full back all the time though is it. That would be remarkably one dimensional and you would be complaining about a lack of plan-b.

What is remarkably one dimensional is our inability to go past a man when Lamptey is not on the pitch.

Yeah I am sure the stats and facts back you up on that one. I am sure Lamptey is the ONLY player that goes past others :ffsparr:

So who am I missing - March? Ali J? Gross? You tell me.

Propper and Mooy. Not that you will believe me and come up with some reason why they don't count.

Notwithstanding Mooy has left the club, I'm talking about taking the man on down the flanks and getting into a dangerous area, not just running past a bloke in midfield on the halfway line like Propper.

Norwich had three players above Propper in those stats - Buendia, Cantwell and Aarons, yet struggled to create chances all season.

If we are to threaten the top half of the table we have to have more pace and more intent. I maintain we are an entirely different proposition when Lamptey is on the pitch and there is no one else at this club that can give you what he can.

Yup knew it. You get presented the facts and then change the goalposts.

You're absolutely right, Mooy tore Premier League full backs a new one every week, which is why we' let him go play in a Mickey Mouse League and nobody at the club gives a shit he's gone.
