Unfortunately there's nothing we can do, and VAR is here to stay.

The only positive is that it's another piece of evidence to change how VAR works.

I fully believe they should go full 'clear and obvious', no lines drawn or extended breaks in play. If someone on a monitor can't see something seriously obvious with one or two replays then just play on.

My concern with this approach is that when we go back and analyse which goals they cancel and which they don't, we'll no doubt find there's no consistency, with Utd goals standing unless they're 2 yards offside, and the rest of us seeing goals cancelled for being 2 foot offside. There were a couple of big mistakes yesterday (ours and Brentford's). I don't know the solution for human's f***ing up that much.

At the time, I was so upset with that goal being overturned by VAR at Selhurst. The initial celebration was unreal. I reasoned with myself that VAR must be right on this one and that I just needed to suck it up.

If I’d known then what I know now, I’d have walked out, I’d have been inconsolable. I stopped watching F1 because the ineptitude of the officials was affecting World Championships. I’m seriously close to binning off football too. I’m sick of it.

The hopes and dreams of all of us Brighton fans, investing so much time, money and most importantly, emotion and loyalty into following the team, only for some twonk on VAR missing the last Palace defender and taking a critical goal away from us.

I don’t know when I’ll have the confidence to celebrate a goal again knowing that VAR can’t be trusted on any level.

Yes, this is probably what should happen. If it has taken a few of us a few minutes this morning to elaborate a simple rubric that would certainly reduce the number of egregious errors by a high percentage* why can't these clowns do the same? They fixed the mad handball rubric fairly easily....albeit that too at least half a season.

*Even with clear blue daylight there may be occasions when there is only a millimeter of clear blue daylight, but statistically the chance of this is tiny compared with the 'bodies clearly overlapping' scenario and the 'clearly not overlapping' scenario.

Selling VAR as solving the problem of "wrong decisions" in football, was a mistake.

Rugby and Cricket have got this right.
Ref/Umpire makes a decision and asks for clarity on things they aren't 100% on.
If they've missed something glaring, the decision gets overturned - if it's minimal stick with the on field decision.

VAR needs to be used the same way.
Ref makes the decision - if they need to check something - ask VAR to check it.

The ref needs to take ownership of the big decisions.
Sharing/delegating responsibility is the problem.

We’re all assuming that this clown on VAR understands the tech and knows how to use it. When these current refs trained and rose through the ranks VAR didn’t exist so being able to use the tech wasn’t a requirement.

They got loads wrong yesterday - IMO the Palace sub should have got a red card, he was out of control. AliMac was borderline red too. For the AliMac reason I’m not going with corruption, it’s just gross incompetence.

We didn’t lose just because of VAR, we beat ourselves too. The only way to put this right is to absolutely BATTER these wankers on the 16th March.

Although even in rugby they seem to look at whatever suits them, eg 2007 World Cup final try for England disallowed because the line was clipped (only visible after about 5 minutes of trying everything to prove that our try should be disallowed). Still gutted about that as I was there and the feeling in the stadium was they took the time to try and find a way of making sure our try could be disallowed, however long it took! Compare that to last week against Scotland when a blatant forward pass for the winning try wasn’t even looked at as far as we know.

If human error is a factor here why haven’t they got a team of officials so the decision is double checked? Imagine that happening last day of the season when a win takes you into Europe. Unreal.

Changing the offside rule would remove a lot of the contentious decisions. Just go with the on pitch decisions unless playback in real time shows an obvious error, otherwise give the attacker the benefit of the doubt. No slowmo, freeze frames or line drawing. Just a quick rerun to make sure the lino’s not obviously cocked up and get on with it. If all teams know that this is the rules, there is no room for complaints.

I honestly believe it’s impossible the system isn’t corrupt. There’s so much money bet on PL, and in VAR you have individuals with a lot of power to change match outcomes who don’t get paid very much. It would be more surprising if there isn’t.

I would suggest there needs to be a check he hasn't completely missed a glaring infringement.

Maybe if the opponents are claiming an infringement, they need to specify what they want to be checked.

But that would be up to the PGMOL to sort out.

It really is time to make the ref's more accountable for their performance.

I agree but the FA can fine the club as it does managers, and players if they criticise the referees or officials. I remember Poyet getting fined £15000 ten years ago for his comments, post match, about a ref.

I suspect, behind the scenes, PBOBE is emailing various bods he used to work with and asking questions, but cannot be seen to do it publicly.

I stopped celebrating on the first day they used it v West Ham at home.

Well that apology from PGMOL is really helpful, just as the one we got a few weeks ago for the incorrect decisions in the Liverpool game was.

Good job we can all move on now and leave the cretins responsible free to make the same mistakes, potentially costing clubs £millions, European places or their status in the league.

If another angle existed, wouldn’t the people involved just release it to shut the world up. Tote up the points we should have had with VAR not fecking up and we’d be about 7 higher? Guess that relies on scoring a pen. or two though, just gutting at the end of the season.
