Yes - the loan is not successful - but I think the mischievous Palarse suggestion originated on NSC rather than a Spanish source!

Certainly I think we should recall him. I wouldn't mind loaning him to Palarse, but maybe a lower league would be better for his development. Alternatively, we have two excellent LBs in the U21 squad who could well benefit from half a season playing in the second or third tier - maybe arrange that for them and have Barco learning some of the elements of his game that are missing for us in PL2?

Clubs can submit their needs for players and other clubs can try to match up players wanting a loan. It sounds like the loaning of Aaron Connolly to Italy happened in the space of a few hours, which just seems remarkably haphazard:-

Absolutely. Kid realised if he didn't buck his ideas up he'd have to spend the rest of his life in Coventry or Blackburn. Now that's motivation...

So’s Buonanotte. Sometimes, just having the opportunity to be a regular starter is enough for some players.

Personally, I got the feeling based on his some of his scouting reports from Boca Jnrs and the Argentinian teams, Barco is still emotionally immature in many ways and needed to be in a very structured development environment combined with a lot of discipline - he’s still an U21 youth team player imo - while he has the skills and talent to play top flight, I think he lacks some of the emotional maturity required for the intensity and highly competitive environment of senior squads.

A Championship loan may therefore suit him better at this stage of his career.

Apparently he did a lot of work with Swedish teammate, Dejan Kulusevski, in the summer. During the international break, Kulusevski was talking in the press about Ayari's improvement. Seems like he played a big role in that.

Enciso played just 4 games for the U21s in the 22-23 season. 2 came right at the start of the season and 2 at the end of Jan/start of Feb after a long run of short sub appearances or not making it off the bench in the first team. By the end of the 22/23 season he started 7 of the last 11 games scoring three and getting two assists.

He was very much eased into the team that season. He didn't start a game in the Premier League for us until Forest away in April.

Agree on all these points. I'd also add on your first one, I think the younger players also learn a lot going on loan and NOT getting in the team. You learn can more from perceived failures.

Ayari is a player who went on loan to Coventry and did "okay", then came back due to lack of meaningful game time. He then went to Blackburn and only managed 10 appearances. To me, what's really marked him out on his return is his mentality, his hunger. The whole "nobody will work harder than I will to get in the team" attitude has really stood out in his interviews.

You can have all the talent in the world but, if the mentality and work ethic is missing, then there's every chance you'll fall by the wayside. His loans may not have been a success in terms of playing time, but they might have just made him as a player.

Particularly in a field where you have so much money, fame, access to potential partners, and move around a lot, why do so many seem to settle down in their first serious relationship - is it actively encouraged by clubs?

Not saying this about Yasin specifically, but it seems like a recipe for disaster and in the end half the footballers end up cheating or divorcing anyway.

I’d say settling down young, starting a family is a great way to keep a footballer focussed on his career rather than being out all the time, getting distracted by multiple women etc

Was nothing more than a reflection on this dynamic of footballer culture and society at large, where now I think the average age at first marriage is about 30.
