How may ful backs do people think we need? Barco, Estupinan and Ferdiglu is too many.

No Europe this year so a tight squad is easier to deal with.

Had any of you considered that this might be made up? First tweet from an Argentine sports tabloid, picked up by a couple of internet click seekers within half an hour and everone is posting theories as to how we're going to fill his shoes. The tabloid says that the reason he's off is that he's only played 6 games, ignoring that he's played 5 of our last 7 games, started every game in pre-season and is playing under a different manager. On this evidence, I see no reason to take this seriously. I'd expect him to start on Saturday.
Yes, considered it and felt it was too random to be made up. That Argentine sports tabloid has also, if IIRC, made some correct reports on our South American players in the past. I'd say Sevilla are surely interested but our willingness to loan him out could be more conditional than it sounds. For instance I think he is 100% not going anywhere before we're 100% sure Ferdi comes.

It's definitely not made up. Even Fab has confirmed it.

He's just retweeted the other bloke and said that we have said that it's a loan, with no chance to sell. One thing I'm fairly sure of is that Romano hasn't got a contact at Brighton who he can phone up for this kind of clarification. Barber obviously has no time for him, wouldn't take his calls and wouldn't be at all happy if he found anyone else doing so. The only contact he would have is the agent and you can't trust a thing that agents say about anything.

Brighton
like others would have liked to see him play this year, but if Ferdi is coming in and Pervis is back fit, then he will have limited minutes.

Would rather he gets solid game time in a top league to continue his development and become the top player we all think he will be.

Same as Goodnight, he is still very young

But more importantly as everyone else has pointed out, we DESPERATELY need full backs. We are so so short in that area even with Ferdi coming in
Are we though? Fighting for two positions we’d have Ferdi, estupinan, Hinsh, Veltman and Lamptey

We have plenty of wing back options too if at any point he decides to go with three at the back.
Yup. 99% certain that Ferdi and Pervis will be the first choices. With Lamptey, Veltman and Hinsh being rotated in. With Hinsh of course also fighting for a midfield spot.

Let’s be fair, Ferdi and Pervis would be one of the best full back pairings in the league and when they’re both fit, especially as less games this season than last, Barco will struggle to get much game time

I’m disappointed to see this news this morning. Had Barco down as our breakout superstar this season. He seems to have it all.
I just hope that we see him in the stripes again. A top season at Sevilla may see offers come in next season that are too good to refuse.
Imho he is better than Pervis

Because we have other incoming I expect
Possibly that too. Because Estupinan rejoined training last week, Kadioglu is presumably joining us within 48 hours and we (probably) have a CB incoming alongside a fit Hinshelwood - who played for the first time in 5 months on Saturday. Alongside a fit Dunk, JPVH, Veltman, and Webster.
And because Hurzeler wants a squad of 22-25 to manage, not 35-40.

Ferdi hasn't signed yet, Hinsh ok but a midfielder covering at fullback, Estupinan coming off bad injury so unsure whether he'll return to his best, Veltman can't play every week and injury prone Lamptey.

Definitely too early to say we have adequate cover.

Not having a go at you, but look at the number of qualifiers in your post. Rightly, because none of us know anything. It could be true. He could be going. However, it's not yet a fait accompli, but the posting that followed the report universally assumed it was. Some journalist from Rotterdam pretty much had a bed laid out in his spare room awaiting Buonanotte's arrival, WBG's been off to Napoli all summer, Lamptey was supposed to be off on loan last summer, or was it January? Some come true, some don't. The whole business is a cloud of tittle in a nebula of tattle and yet every uttering is taken as the voice of the burning bush preceding the tablets of stone.

All I'm saying is let's worry about it when it happens, not if it might happen.

Starting a revolution from my bed
Well I’m gonna stick my head above the parapet here and say I’m still not convinced that Barco has the best defensive traits. No denying that his technical level is very good but I think he may still need to work on some of his defensive work - physicality, isolated 1v1 defending, positional awareness (particularly important given he’s not lightning quick like Pervis).

Whoever plays full back for us this year is going to be asked to do a hard defensive job because it’s an obvious way to expose the gaps in our tactical set-up. As much as Dyche might be a dinosaur, his Everton team will not be the last side that hit lots of diagonals to the wingers. Others might find more sophisticated ways of doing it, but I’m pretty certain it will be a target area.

I’d certainly feel more comfortable with a fit Pervis at left back than Barco.

I think if Ferdi does come in then it’s a great move for all parties.

I don't necessarily disagree but there has never been a football forum like that in the history of the Internet.
